I'm new to the forum trying to figure out how to navigate around the website.

I have a few questions about a 1986 nissan with a z24 I recently bought. Ive mainly worked on a been around fords all my life, so the z24 is kind of a new thing. I bought it to help out on gas, cause my 79 ford is not to great on gas.
The z24 has had a blown head gasket once before that I know of, the truck was still ran while it had a blown hg causing a hole in the block. The head was sent off and fixed and the block was welded up and filed down. All the work was done before I bought it. Im concerned if its goin to hold. It seems the truck came with a z24i or thats what it shows under the hood but the serial number on the block shows it to be a z24 but it has the direct injection system instead of a carb. Im also curious if the emission system could be deleted, and if the egr valve could cause the head gasket to blow, or what is the main cause of the blown head gaskets in the z24 and what is the best way to avoid it.

The "i" on the end of the engine name means that the car has throttle body injection, or rather a non-carbureted engine management.

Basically, "i" means it has electronic injection, no carb. It is most definitely not "direct injection", however. That's something that much newer cars have.
What you have is pretty much one big injector in the throat of the air intake.

Depending on what state you live in, swapping out the TBI for a carb won't be legal to drive on the street because of emissions regulations.

Oh ok thanks for the info on the injection system. Well the state I live in we don't have any emission test so I could put a carb on if I needed to. But I'm tryin to get the best gas mileage out of it that I can. Thats why I'm curious about the emission delete.

not sure about what can be deleted but fuel injection is usually more efficient than a carb so you may want to stay with what you have.
