hey everyone, I'm new to the forum, and I recently got a 98 maxima SE.

It was free, but it was abused by my sister.

Lemme know what you think.

can't think of anything better than a free max...better get rid of the rust before it eats away the car.

living in ny your gonna have the problem coming back over and over but the sheet metal on nissans is nickel - or something like that to prevent rusting - plated so just sand the rust off, prime and repaint and you should be good for a while. check your electrical cables and connections, brake and fuel lines, anything else that's exposed to salt in the winter - those just replace as necessary.

might want to check your floor and frame if you're gonna check the brake and fuel rust...floorpans are a b.itch to replace.

welcome to nico

looks like you have rust under your wing take the wing off i dont know if its bolted on or taped. and fix the holes before you get a leaky trunk. might be able to find a trunk lid in the junkyard same color without the wing.

Welcome!

To take care of the rust you'll want to take off the spoiler. If it's just surface rust you'll probably be okay just sanding down to clean metal and primer/painting over it to protect it. Then clean up the spoiler (any rust on the spoiler will accelerate new rust forming on the trunk) and put it back on. Make sure to seal around the bases of the spoiler to avoid the same thing happening again.

WELCOMEWELCOMEWELCOMEWELCOMEWELCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you are going to love it here on NICO!!!

suggestions:

1 deciding what kind of budget you have for the repairs comes first!!2 get that spoiler off ASAP3 take care of the rust around he door4 replace weather stripping around door only if it's needed(because the rust could be coming from under the weather stripping.5 check ALL engine hoses for cracks or leaks6 get some pix of the engine up here so we can take a look at it and suggest any obvious issues7 keep your car clean, especially through winter. rinse her down with warm water every couple days(especially if you are driving on salty roads)8 check your engine and transmission oil levels.9 check air filter

that should keep you busy for a little bit!! welcome again
