New to the forum saying hi and introducing my G20 project with a question.

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Car: 1993 infinity G20, with motor and trans out of a 1994 G20T

Post

I am taking the motor out of a 1994 G20T which was rear ended at 65MPH, ill post pics of that car later its impressive how well it held up, all the doors still open and only the back window was broken. I am taking that motor and installing it into a 1993 G20, which I bought for 400 bucks - its not perfect but its in nice condition, now to the question.

question, the 1993 has a coil separate from the distributor, and the 1994 is integrated, with a few other changes to the way the fuel injectors are connected and such, here is what i planed on doing, i want to pull the motor side wiring harness out of the G20t along with the ECU and install it in the G20 i have a FSM for the 1993 g20 and it looks like the harness disconnects under the dash from the ecu separate from the main harness. my question is can i plug the main harness on the 1993 into the ECU in the 1994 and not lose functionality or am i going to have to re-pin the connectors, i have the FSM for the 1993 and i have acquired diagrams for all the years and makes of the infinity up to 2007 so i could repin the connectors if need be but that is a major Pain in the rump. i also have both cars complete so if i need to switch various parts out it will not be an issue, also if anyone is looking for parts for a 94 G20t let me know they may be parts that i do not plan on keeping. i am going to haul the 1994 G20t to the scrap yard after i get the 1993 running.

Best bet is to compare the pin diagrams.

In '94, Infiniti got ahead of the game by having the G20's equipment move to OBDII standards a year early, IIRC, so I'd imagine you need to try to mate the harnesses/re-pin or use all '94 electrical bits.

Try a search (or a few) on this in this forum and FWD SR20 (link at the top of the Sentra/G20 page). I know it's been discussed several times with people in similar situations, but I don't recall the outcomes. It may be very simple.

Ok, here is what i found out. I decided to use the 93 electrical system when i found out that in order to use the 94 i would have to rewire the entire car. so i went out and bought an intake gasket set and gear oil and cv grease and when up to the shop and preceded to start taking the intake off of the 93 only to find out that the head from the 94 and the 93 are completely different, the 93 mounts twords the top with angled ports, the 94 mounts on the bottom with flush mounting, this ment i would have to use the 94 motor as it sat, so i spent about 2 hours trying to figure out if i could modify the harness in teh 93 to plug into the EFi harness on the 94 motor, long story short the answer is no and i really did not want to cut the harness in the 93 if it was avoidable. I dissected the EFI portion of the harness on the 93 and labeled the injector ports and plugs as best i could, and then I went plug by plug on the harness labeling the sensors that they plugged into, then i went online and got a print out of were all the sensors were on the 94, and found out that the 94 has one less vacume sensor and the Crank postion sensor is located in a diffrent location entirely. on the 93 it is integral to the distributor and on the 94 its on the bottom front side of the motor. i already knew i was going to have to replace the CDI dist on the 94 motor with the coil and distributor from the 1993.

so i put the motor in the car and began plugging every thing in when it came time to put the axels in i found that the axels were completly diffrent aswell, so i pulled the axels out of the 94 and installed them, I am not sure how i got lucky enough to get it on the first try but the only thing i did wrong was switch the return and feed fuel lines, i sorted that out and it fired right up and ran like a champ. It rides so smooth and the seats are super comfy.

now ill make another post with the small issues i have with the car now.
