hey i joined the forum to research . im looking at purchasing a 240sx convertable for a new project. ive built 2 turbo hondas so im not new to cars. i wanted to do a rear wheel drive car with lots of aftermarket support. i wanted to try something different with the project so thats why im looking into the convertible.there are hundreds of turbo 240`s in my area so i didnt want to just build a normal 240 or buy a RHD one.

my questions are...

i know that all verts are automatics.... so id like to swap to 5 speed. my first honda project was an auto to manual swap. i wanted to know if there is anything different in regards to the covertible in doing this swap. it doesnt look to be too bad done in a coupe or hatch, but i havent found anyone thats done it on a vert.

after working on a supra turbo i wanted to try a 6 cylinder. i also like the possibility of an rb20 or rb25 swap. ive looked into installing an rb engine into the coupe/hatch and been reading about whats involved. does anyone know if there is anything in the convertible that would stop the install of one of the rb engines into it. i see the SR20 engines in them so i would assume that installs are the same as a coupe.

is it possible that i convert to manual then swap an rb engine into the vert?

thanks

welcome dude

this forum has TONS of resources to help w/ and swap you could ever want to do. The auto to 5 speed swap is stickied in the FAQ thread at the top. RB's are so common these days that mount kits and drive shafts are made for the swaps. The RB Motor forums on NICO are a great resource for this info.

My main point is when you come to "research," actually SEARCHING goes A LONG way. Good luck on your project and keep us posted.

thanks

yeah i already read through the auto to 5 speed swapin the FAQ and checked out mckinney motorsports and such.. i`ve been doing alot of research and spent some time on this site reading.. i maybe wasnt clear about what i was really asking.. what i was trying to ask was : is the convertible any different in terms of these swaps than doing them to a coupe? is there anything in the convertibles that might be a little different that might cause major problems such as swapping in an rb engine? Or, are the pedal assemblys on all s13 body 240`s the same?

when i did a auto-manual conversion on a 91 honda civic, i found out that you could only use the pedals from 91 civic si`s, all other models from 88-91wouldnt work.what people told me would work were all slightly different.

i know there isnt many convertible 240`s around, so if something like pedals are different , doing a 5 speed swap now becomes a tonne of work. these are just the things im worried about in terms of going ahead with this project

no, there are no differences.

Convertibles started life as a coupe, they then were out-sourced to 2 different companies to undergo surgery and come out a Convertible. The only differences are of course the top, and there are added chassis braces in the convertible. Interior panels are slightly different, but as far as I know, thats it. The drivetrain is identical, along w/ pedal assembly shift linkage etc.

Welcome to Nico....There is a ton of useful info about modifing convertibles on this froum...I also have done a ton of Honda swaps and I also work at a Honda dealer for a living....I bought my convertible about a year an a half ago to do something different. Good luck with the build and if you have any questions just ask.....

I think the RB engines fit nicely in the 'vert's engine bay.
