So after 7 wonderful years and 155k miles with my 99 Maxima, it is finally time to move on. I researched and shopped around for almost 2 months, and finally settled on a 2004 SE, fully loaded w/ 50k miles. Here she is (dealer photo):

White was my 4th and last color choice (silver > pewter > black > white) but the price was way too right so I had to pull the trigger. I pick it up later today.

Being new to the Pathfinder world, I have a few questions:

1) The FM radio (Bose setup) is staticy and this dealer won't touch it. What should I look for to fix it?

2) One of the power seat buttons on the passenger seat is missing (control still work but the knob isn't there) - is this a part Nissan will sell, or does anyone know where else I could get one?

3) Does anyone know the frequency of the power valve bolt problem in the 2004? I actually didn't hear about this until after I signed the papers, so I am a little wary about it. I am up in the air between the dealer nailing me for a few hours labor to do the fix, or just letting it go.

Thanks in advance for any input...

haha, seems to be a common reply around here, but after dropping all this cash on a car, i won't be replacing the stereo anytime soon!

anyway CDs sound fine (well not as good as the bose in the maxima was, which is disappointing, but as good as this thing is gonna sound, i imagine), the static is strictly an FM radio problem, so presumably something in line between the antenna and radio. just wondering what the most likely culprit might be.

ya I totally know what you mean. There having alot of good sales right now, i got some nice alpine speakers and a new deck for $300.But ya if its just the radio making the noise then its not a big deal, lolmost likely the antenna.

My '04 SE FM clarity sucks too...not sure if it's the antenna, which I'm sure mine is less than fully recieving these days after being beat up, painted, almost broken...but it still works with my Ipod just fine....I assume you're trying to use an FM modulator, or are you trying to catch something on the radio.........? People still do that? Might be a pathfinder thing for crappy radio signals....Congrats on the car...is it 4x4? If so, go beat the **** out of it off road....they take better care of you if you show 'em who's boss.

i actually don't listen to much FM radio so i'm not overly concerned, but still would like to fix it

dump the bose and replace the head unit and speakers with aftermarket-youll be glad you did. i havent yet but i fully intend to next spring. IMO the bose sounds like crap, isnt that nice of a unit and isnt very reliable. might local check circuit city stores, theyre having store closing sales all across the country.

I don't think its very frequent, once in a while you'll read about severe engine damage on the internet but realistically the chances are probably 1:10,000. The most conscientious owners are lock-titing these as a preventative measure. Info:

http://npora.ipbhost.com//inde...14826 PS if your VQ powered pathfinder is a 5 speed manual transmission, it does not have power valve screws and you do not need to worry about a thing. Proof: http://npora.ipbhost.com//inde...18310

I thought 2001 or maybe 2002 was the last year for stick shift Pathfinders?
