Hello everyone, i trully love my q45, even if karma is killing me with her right now.. i cant seem to pass smog for the life of me.. i pulled all the codes and tried to research them to the best of my ability and it seems that all the the same codes that pulled up during my last smog failure are also pulled up again during this latest failure. and i am at a loss as to what is causing this.. misfire in cyl-1, rear o2 sensors, intake timing valves and FPCM.. i had all of these repaired last time ( 2 years ago) and yet this year they are all happening again. when i first bought my baby i was told that the fuelpump malfunction light is a constant problem, in fact it was a issue when i first bought her.. but never affected performance...but seems to keep coming back to haunt me. i have had the car now for about 9 years. and dont want to lose her.. even if she has been through hell and back..

i figure anycar that i can drive off a cliff with, survive, and have winched back up and throw on a spare to drive home with, is a keeper (true story)..

but my baby needs help, any suggestions as too how to get her past smog, and which of those items is the most crucial one to attack to do this? thanks for your time..

Sounds like it's time to spend some time with the factory service manual... http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/

The 1997 one is incomplete, but the '98 should be similar enough.

We have found that the coil packs tend to fail... the best, although costly, solution appears to replace all of them with new OEM coils. Make sure you're using the factory specified NGK plugs.

When you replaced the FPCU, did you replace the pump as well? I've never heard of it on the 1997 and newer Q45s, but old pumps frequently eat FPCUs on the 90-96.

Rear O2 sensors could be either bad sensors, or possibly bad cats... read up on the diagnostics in the FSM. Replacements from http://www.sparkplugs.com have been found to work well at a substantial discount.

I have no idea on the other code you mentioned...

Welcome to NICO!
