Hello, well after sitting down and thinking, Ive decided i want to join the 240 community. Back in November my 1992 Nissan 300zx N/A was stolen, then recovered two weeks later, and claimed totaled due to the damage. I will be losing the car this week, and i want to move on to another car. Id rather not buy another N/A 300zx..I got bored with it too quickly, and parts are expensive for it. So i figured i would get a 240 next. I'm interested in the s13 model, but dont know if i should get a hatch or the coupe. They are pretty hard to find in this area and i haven't seen many 240s at all for sale at the moment, hopefully something will come up on craigslist within the week..Ive tried dealers and they all say that its a hard find. But besides the point, Ive always liked the 240, but when i was purchasing a car it didn't come into my mind, and then i found that 300. Ive only owned the 300 for about 5 months, and then this theft mess happened. But i plan to own a 240 next and get to know a good community.

so you got money off the claim? couldnt you buy the car back and make more money out of it? like you said parts for those cars are expensive. And the 240 you'll get will be a money pit as well.good luck shopping

If I were you I would do as Jeff said buy it back then snag the brakes and rear hubs off it and then sell the rest for parts because if you want to mod your 240 the first thing you should do if you have a 300 is tear those babies off get front hubs and the few extra parts needed to do the swap and bam instant stopping power and your 5 lug which means you have so many more wheel options. just saying that's what I would do plus selling it off for parts will make you some money for fixing the 240

Well the thing is that the 300 is financed so the bank has the title. So the insurance company is going to pay off the loan, then it goes to a salvage yard, they said since the title isnt in my hands right now by state they cant sell it back to me. =\. But i found one around the area for $2300, needs power steering pump though. and got 184k miles on it =\..

you found a z for 2300? dont do it. z32 brake swap pops often around here. you have made the decision of getting a 240, then stick to that decision. in my opinion.

i made that mistake with my first 240. I knew i wanted one but didnt know a price. got a pretty clean auto hatch for 2400. 117k miles at the time. No serious problems with it, but it was wayyyyy too much at the time. A few months ago, I picked up a super clean, rust free hatch for $500. Guy thought the transmission was bad but it was just the alternator. I called him the same day he posted and picked it up the day after.

I mean hey...you may not be able to get those brakes off the z32, but be patient when looking for a 240. Good ones pop up nice n cheap, but they arent posted up for long. Be ready to strike grasshopper.

Yea im really interested in one, but really hard to find for sale within this area..whats a good price range for them..im guessing that the one for 2300 with bad power steering pump and 184k miles is a bad deal..

I have yet to check there, im on the south side of allentown.

EDIT:Was just looking through North Jersey. Found this one http://newjersey.craigslist.or....html

But is it worth it for the cracked windshield and exhaust hole? Plus what would i go through purchasing a car in NJ and bringing it into PA?

Cracked windshield isnt that bad, has to be dealt with and the exhaust hole can be welded or just buy another. If it isnt too far from me I can check it out for ya. I already emailed him.

As far as the title, there shouldnt be an issue. Bring the NJ title to PA dmv and if im not mistaken you have to wait in the mail for the PA one. Here in NJ if you bring an out of state title you have to wait for it in the mail, whereas if its from jersey you can just get it at the dmv.

UPDATE: I'm gonna see the car tonight. He lives in the town next to me. I'll let ya know how it goes.

car was a POS lol.

201k miles. Sorta shook like it had low compression in one of the cylinders. He probably shouldnt have told me but he said the previous owner had the car totaled because of a front end accident with a deer. He pieced it back together and got it running. There was no exhaust leak, the sound came from a really REALLY bad wheel bearing on the drivers side. His car was quieter than mine. Brake pedal was very mushy. I'm not sure if that was just me because i have z32 brakes, but it was definitely too mushy to be normal. Windshield was cracked. Motor was definitely on its way out. It pulled sorta strong, but at idle it showed its true face.

Summary:High mileageMotor on the way outmild rust, not too badsalvaged titlecracked windshieldpoor brake pressure (could just not be bled well)bad wheel bearing

not worth the money.

Wow lol, im glad i didnt end up heading down that way to look at it for myself. Thank you, thats alot of trouble i really rather not get involved into right off the start. Especially dont wanna own a salvage titled 240 either. and I def wouldnt pay what he wants for that considering the problems..Im still looking around, so lets see what happends.

Hey Steve lol. Interesting that we passed by on the forums. Well i was talking to Alex about it, but i don't have much interest in the coupes =\. I'm more of a hatch kinda person. I bought a cheap beater car for the mean time, so I'm gonna save up for a few months then go 240 looking. But keep me in mind if in a few months you know anyone selling a hatch.

Just keep checking clist or the classifieds on the site here. I'm looking for one now (well actually waiting to sell my car) and the ones on here normally drop at least $1-2000 before they finally sell.
