Hey everybody, Josh here, new to the boards somewhat, first time posting, but I've read up for a few months now. I was going to post before but timing hasn't been great. I have a 1992 Q45 and have loved every second of it despite the hickups I've had, up until now. I was installing a Ractive intake in it to see what would happen, got it in, sounds awesome, then I go to close the hood. BAM, passenger side is sitting up in the air while the driver side is down. If anyone knows where to get ahold of the hood latches(best thing I could figure to say), they are the little connectors that sit behind the pistons that assist in lifting the hood, I would be most appreciative. The furthest one back on the passenger side snapped off....

Thanks.Josh

On the left where all the banners are, is one for "Everything Infiniti"

Call their number: 1-888-216-5328 and ask for Joe, let him know youre a NICO member and explain to him what parts you need.

The web site (everythinginfiniti.com) is poorly organized; I wouldnt even bother pecking through that darn thing trying to find what you need.

Any pics of your Q?

No pics yet, but even if I had them, you all would boo me for the condition its in. The driver side doors both need new outside panels, the car seemed to be nudged before I bought it, plus, I've driven from home(WV), to Louisville about 4 times in the last 3 weeks, so the bugs have accumulated.

It's probably the hinges themselves, isn't it?

My pass side hinge pulled that same maneuver a couple of weeks ago. Just get both of them, they're only like $30 or so.

Yes, it is the hinge on the pass side(found out by going to everythinginfiniti.com, I navigate the site fine *shrug*), so I'll be placing an order tomorrow for them. If anyone has an idea as to where I can find engine diagrams for the car, I'd be most appreciative, I was going through some of the posts and I think that the little bit of idle vibration I have could be my pcv valve, so I'd like to know where it is in order to replace it. I guess I might as well put on here what I have been having problems with since I got the car. About 2 months ago, the car started to vibrate VIOLENTLY at idle, we're talking big block 5,000 carbed shake, that seemed to only happen at idle. about 2 weeks later, it went away, poof, gone, could barely tell the car was running at all. Now about a week ago, it started to vibrate again, but very faintly. A friend looked into it and said that the Q had a self-servicing feature for the spark plugs since they were before the 100,000 mile ones, that the engine would intentionally run richer to ignite at higher temps and clean the plugs out. I imagine that some, if not all, of the plugs need to be replaced, but as I was only able to get the pass side cover off, I am very scared, very very scared, to attempt the driver side seeing as you have to remove so much, I need to search the forum some more and see if anyone has written a good tut on it, maybe pics too :). I also need to replace the belts, I have a very loud noise at about 4500rpm on that goes away after upshifting and dropping revs, which definately leads me to believe its a belt, mostly from the sound. Thats not everything, but this post is getting very long, and well, I need to be at work in about 5 hours, so, I'm going to sleep! lol.

Hey! First off, welcome to the boards. Secondly, on the note of the spark plugs, make sure and get NGK Platinum plugs. Consensus says they're the only plugs you should be running in your Q! Sorry I can't help ya with much else, but I'm sure other people on the board would be more than glad to share their opinions.

If you want plugs, I can get them for you, CHEAP email me.

Welcome to the board. I second everything said so far.

It sounds like your on a good track, but you need to know about the TIMING guides. Do a search for that as that takes priority on EVERYTHING else!

Please be careful with a malfunctioning hood hinge as if it binds, you could bend your hood at its designed crash deformation point when you attempt to close the hood.

too late maxnix ;) but, it bent right back with the right tools... thankfully, wes, I'm emailing ya when I get home from work! And as far as the timing guides go, I know all about them, I'm going to call the # to check service history on my next break, but, from the way I drive the car daily, and how many miles I've put on it in the very short time I've had it, I'd say they were replaced, no flaming here guys, just deducing things.

Ok well, flame away, just got off the phone with Infiniti and they have no record of the guides being replaced. The car now has 136k miles on it, I'm half tempted to just sell it as it would take me 2 months to come up with the money at the moment to get them replaced. $2500 is probably what I'll sell it for if I can get that out of it.
