please.

Hello all.....The car is being shipped to me and should arrive on Thursday.

The following items have be replaced on the car which has 225K KM on the clock. It apparantly has no oil leaks and is good shape.

Timing BeltAll InjectorsWater PumpFront Tie RodsNew BatteryRotors have been turned and pads are 100%Rears are 80%

What other things should I look to replace just to be on the safe side as I don't want to get stranded on the top of some BC mountain pass in the middle of winter over some cheap part that normally goes on these cars.

I am also looking at getting a copy of the Shop Manual for this car..does anybody have an electronic copy they care to share with me.

I am a total gear head so will be doing everything myslef on this car.

I plan on investing a a set of Michelin Pilot Alpins or Dunlop Winter S3's.

Thanks to all,

Cheers,

Ben

PS, Thought I would attach a pic of my summer beater, 700 HP 996TT, and yes I do all the work on this car too plus I drive the boots off it..she ain't no garage queen!

The J isn't a greeat snow car so be prepared. If I were going to tackle mountain passes in winter I would definitely have a set of chains.

Drive belts and hoses are good preventitive maint. items. The transmission filter should be changed ASAP and change to synthetic ATF .

The J is the most solid ride you will ever own if you take care of her.

Cheers VimyJJ,

Thanks for the advice,

I assume there is nothing hard/special about doing the transmission fluid change...drain oil, drop the pan, gasket, filter etc and re-fill her with synthetic ATF, (what brand type etc?)

I am not too worried about the RWD thing as my last car was a 550 HP blow BMW 540 with 100 shot of nitrous...it was a hoot to drive in the smow mind you the DSC did most of the work, without it, I will be doing donuts all the time..haha.

I grew up in Winnipeg and know about snow driving and been through mountains plenty of times. The J is a heavy car. 3800 lbs on average with the weight bias slightly to the front. That said, it is a fine drivers car instilling that elusive feeling of confidence. Good snow tires on the rear wheels would be mandatory for serious snow driving. However, I have never had a problem in the snow but then again I know my J's strengths and weaknesses and knowledge is power.

Go Mobil One with Black and Red Lubegard. The mass of the J is hard on the same transmission that was stock on the NA 300z and weighs 500 lbs less. Keep quality fluid flowing freely through and the transmission will do the trick for you. The shifter is gated and the engine high a wide power band so change the gears yourself when power concerns are at a premium.

Get a new OEM replacement transmission filter. It was improved over the OEM design to allow greater flow,

I would do a full transmission flush, with a machine where all the old transmission fluid is removed.

Welcome to Nico!

Its nice to see another Canadian on the board.

I've driven my J through parts of BC. Made a run once from Calgary to Cranbrook BC. Some spectacular driving. Of course I did it in the summer when my car was basically new.

I just got a whole bunch more info faxed to my by the Infiniti dealer that looked after her for a while. My car is the Touring version apparently..... Woo Hoo!

Its had lots of maintenance done on her.

Sway bar end rods, tie rods, new HICAS module, repacked hubs and bearings, transmission service at 184k KM..thats good to here, mud flaps installed, various oil and filter changes, full brake service, new remote, 186K service, replaced all drive belts, tensioner, water pump, replaced all injectors, new battery.

Sort of looks like it has been looked after, this was all from 167K to 218K KM.

Any comments guys?

Cheers,

Ben

You're gonna love the HICAS, at high speeds you basically cornering on rails through curves and switchbacks. I've suprised many Bimmer and Benz drivers.

A piggy bag on BigBadBen's question about maint.

How often is everyone changing the timing belt/water pump? Im at 127k miles... hate to bite the $600 bullet, but better than $6000 engine <im a cheapskate>

DD, It was a big surprise to me to find out it had HICAS plus the other sway bar upgrades...can't be bad. I decided to go with a setof Dunlop Winter Sport M3 all round, how that helps her stay on the road.

Thanks Omar, It has been a childhood dream of mine to own a TT and now I have it and love every minute of it. It's always been a 911 for me....I just love the timeless lines....sooooooo sexy! plus she goes like stink, nothing better than 700HP under your right foot....well maybe 800 or 900 ..haha

Great board guy's..thanks so much for the input.
