Fellow Nissan fools,

I've finally gotten rid of the 71 Datsun 510 with the dual carbed 2.2, and am now looking to get a 91-93 240SX. First I'm going to get the suspension dialed in, then comes the SR20DET swap. I have been doing some searches on the board and have a couple of questions.

Suspension:

I read the long thread on 4 vs. 5 lug hubs. From what I understand, the 4 lug hubs CAN use Brembo brakes (if the rotors are redrilled to the 4 lug pattern), and can use coil-over suspensions. I'm looking to get the JIC setup. If this isn't right, and I should plan on doing a 5 lug conversion to get bigger brakes, please lemme know.

The SCC Project Sylvia had some parts, like custom JIC T/C rods. Also Phase2Motorsport has similar parts for sale. At what point when a car gets lowered, do the T/C rods and other assorted parts get stressed? I'm considering polyurethane bushings first, then upgrading to custom parts if necessary. Does changing the bushings put too much load on parts of a lowered car, to the point where T/C rods, or other parts might snap?

Engine:

I've read enough to know to get the front clip. I'm going to try to find an S13 with the high-port head. My initial goal is approx. 300whp. Before the engine goes into the car, I'm going to do the clutch and lighten the flywheel. Have the head pulled off for a metal gasket, and to inspect the pistons. While the head is off, I'm considering some cams (HKS and Toda both seem to make a set with around 264 degrees of duration), adjustable sprockets, and upgraded valve springs. So, two questions.

A local where I live at who has done some SR swaps, says that the engine will spin to 9k all day long with an upgraded valve train. True?

How many horsepower are cams and sprockets generally worth? Of course that's dependent on a lot of things like turbo sizing and what not. I'm not going to be running anymore than 1 bar for a while. This car is going to be a street car, that I can hopefully go spank some M3's and Audi's at the track with.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Sorry if the cam / sprocket question has been done before. I didn't find anything about it in the search.

Just so you guys know....even inanimate objects hate Canada. During ecology class today we learned that during the last Ice Age, about 18,000 years ago, glaciers formed all across Canada. They hated it up there, and began to move south, taking with them a lot of Canadas soil, depositing it in the Midwest.

See even mother nature dislikes Canada.

Oh, sorry, back to topic, why would you sell your 510? Its funny you got rid of that for a 240, and I'd drop my 240 in a heartbeat for a 510.

You would have more success with answers to your questions on the engine if you post them in the SR20DET section of the boards. Most of the guru's stick to the places they are familiar with. I'm not familiar with the SR and it's potential and I'm NO GURU of any kind.... sorry.

As for the suspenson:

Poly bushings are a good idea regardless of the lowering. I don't think the after-market T/C rods were swapped because of the added stress of lowering, so much as it was done to compensate for the added stress of agressive use.

Brakes:

The 4 lug to 5 lug swap is useless (in my humble opinion). It amounts to extra weight and an unjustified expense. I seem to recall the same thread you are referring to, and the rotors CAN be redrilled for 4 lug (but I'm not 100% certain.... keep looking).

you can get the 300zx brembo's converted to four lug at heavythrottle.com . im pretty sure they arent the big break kit but will do just fine for the s13. expensive (in my eyes) but nice.
