I am looking at selling my 01 pathfinder and 89 nissan sr20d'd 240sx to get a Black on Black Convertable 350z anything I should know about when looking? I didn't know where to find the specs on the 350z's but I guess I was just wondering how much hp and what kind of quarter mile times will I be looking at. Do these things beat s2000's stock? anyway hope I can find what im looking for fairly soon.

Depends on the model year, but 350z's will come with 287bhp or 300bhp, unless you get the droptop, then you're stuck with 287bhp IIRC. 287bhp coupes will run high 13's-low 14's, depending on driver. Of course the convertible will be considerably slower as they are always heavier.

I think the stock ET for the coupe is supposed to be 13.9? and project car magazine (brand new rag from primedia, check it out) did an SR swap with upsized injectors and a little more boost to an otherwise stock SR and ran I believe it was a 14.3, and they built the whole car for $7500 including purchace price swap and all

and I think the S2k's run low 14 secnd times, so again same ballpark just a completely different power band (no torque below 5k)

the newer cars are gonna be more dependable but gonna cost ya up front, the sx can be done on the cheap but all it's parts are at least 10 years old so things are gonna break and wear out

oops, reading comprehension own me

and I believe the 350Z does edge out the S2k in stock trim, convertible 350z might be more equal to or even slower than the s2k, you really should drive both cars, they are radically different

car and driver got 14.3 in the 350z touring edition (w/ 287hp) -- that is about average. the absolute best magazine time i've seen is 13.7 from motor trend.

early s2000's average around 14.2 in magazines, newer models are probably .2 quicker b/c the engine is actually 2.2 liters and has more torque.

that said -- NEITHER of these cars are for drag racing primarily. you buy these cars b/c they are excellent all around sports cars. however, if you do want an all out drag car the 350z has more speed potential IMO than the s2000.

ALSO -- on the street, hell even at the track, these cars are closely matched enough that the winner of any race b/w the two will likely depend on the driver. the z will *likely* be easier to pilot quickly b/c it has a lot more torque and you should be able to make use of the powerband easier than in the s2000.

Okay well let's see. There was never a track model for the convertible, so everyone who mentions it is talking about the coupe. Aside from the first year the convertible was introduced (2004), there are three styles to choose from: the Enthusiast, Touring, and Grand Touring.

As of 2006, all manual 350z roadsters have 300 hp. The 2004 and 2005 are 287 hp. Like you said, the Grand Touring has brembo brakes whereas the other two trims do not. The Enthusiast comes with cloth seats whereas the other two come standard with leather. However the past two statements are relevant to the latest year of 350z and can be simply found at the Nissan site. To find out more on the other years, I think you should check out edmunds.com

I am probably going to go with a touring roadster and just upgrade the suspension, brakes, nismo exhaust , and some type of intake.... It will be a fun car hopefully not any 12 sec 240 but a fun daily driver.
