Hey guys I bought my 1994 300zx tt (ultra red) for almost a year now. Always wanted one so finally picked up this one for $7500. Great body and motor runs good. Since Ive bought it Ive changed the timing belt, water pump, all 6 injectors to new style. Car came with Jim Wolf Technology ECU (EZ323-TMC00). As of now the car runs great, but there is a noise when shifting like a slight clunk if Im on the clutch and gas at the same time if I let go of the clutch before pressing on the gas no sound at all. I was thinking maybe a rear end or drivshaft ? Anyways just wanted to know what kind of problems should I look out for. As for the noise Im not really too worried about Ive changed the way I used to drive unless its something major.

Well lol since your not releasing the gas when shifting your engine rpm's are rising between shifts which means that your tran's then has to instantly catch up, your essentially clutch kicking but since you changed gears your not breaking traction like you otherwise would as the rpm's are obviously naturally lower in a higher gear at the same rpm. Kind of like down shifting without rev matching is highly un-smooth.

Yea as far as I'm concerned you are clutch kicking, just not very hardcore. :P

I dont think Im explaining myself right. You know how when your shifting gears you press on the clutch shift gears then release the clutch while slightly adding the gas on most cars but for mine if i dont fully let off the clutch i get this clunk like coming from the rear is that normal or sonething wrong

Ok first, is this your first standard car? You are only supposed to add gas upon take off to get the car rolling. Once the car is rolling you don't need to give gas while shifting between gears.

This is my first rear wheel and first turbo car Ive had a few civic and intergras and working for a car lot ive driven quite a bit of different cars but usually when releasing the clutch while in any other gear than 1st there is usually a jerk unless the gas is balanced in the only time that Ive heard that clunck was in a m3 maybe us just me but Im not that worried about it anyways Thank though

To me it sounds like OP is trying to double clutch

But seriously though OP, when you're off the gas and release the clutch you're doing it right. That's why no clunk. However, it shouldn't clunk in the first place, so it's most likely diff bushings if you don't have any driveline vibration.

Easy to find? Sure, just poke your head underneath from the back of the car. Easy to replace? Hell no! Just removed mine for the first time yesterday. 'Twas a b*tch! Well, mainly just time consuming.

My money is on either diff bushings or carrier bearing.
