Car: cars...and cars

Post

All i can say is that i love the 240sx, problem is that I dont have storage space to keep the car while I build up the motor! I want to do cams, pistons, rods, port & polish, PDM cam's, JWT chip, and I hear that WIK is also good, and possibly shave the heads to up the compresion (is this a good idea if I want to add a turbo or should I go low compression?). I was origonaly going to buy the car then pull the KA24de (want a 91') and strip it down and do the full rebiuld, but now I want to just buy the motor and transmission and build that first and then buy a donor body...is this a good idea or should i just jump right in and start with the SR20DET? Im looking to do a sleeper with 190-220+hp before turbo, can it be done? Then can it be done for around 3-4k w/o the car? My overall budget is around 6-8k right now, with some extra savings being put away just for a turbo (mabey in 8-10 months)

So far 240sx.org has been a huge resorce and I look forward to some possitive sugestions, if my idea is s**t let me know what I should do...Im mechanicaly inclined and helped build up a few..*shudder*.. hondas... Any help would be appriciated!

do you have a 240 right now? I don't understand what you mean when you say donor body...

Well, doing all that to your engine will easily cost several thousand dollars. I will be selling prebuilt ones for 3000, you can find themm on my website but at this point all there is is tentative information. If you build the car for N/A power you won't want to/be able to turbo it as your compression ratio will be too high. If you lower the compression ratio, you'll have no power. If you want to spend like 3,000 dollars building the KA24DE, just to put in an SR20 8 months later, you pretty much might as well spend the 3,000 dollars putting in a SR20 right now...

Also, as far as the car and engine deal goes, if you can find a 240 you should buy it, they aren't THAT easy to come across, not like a honda. It would be easier to buy the 240 first, rather than build an engine and search for it, because it might be months before you find a suitable one. Then you'll just have that engine sitting there all that time. : )

So if you want to go Turbo, either KA-T or SR20 theres no point in building the engine as of now, not if you plan to do it 8 months later either way. Enjoy your day.

Any other more specific questions we can answer for you?
