Hope to have a 240sx

Post

hey guys i started a thread about power making on the sr20 motor over in the general section. but figured id throw it here too.

i come from a back ground of evos and stis so im starting to get into the nissan family.

my main question is can the sr20 motor wether being the red top or the black top handle 450-460 whp with supporting mods without building the motor. or is it def necessary thing to build the motor as in (pistons, rods) and so on.

like i said i come from a evo background where the stock motor can handle well over 450whp so this is all new to me.

im looking to make the car a highway type of car with quick spool and great top end.

thanks

Other than a mls head gasket and head studs, yes. There have been a few people to hit 550 600 hp on stock bottom end.

SR has been proven to handle 650whp on a stock block. The only real weak point with an SR is in the head..

I haven't came across a 500+ HP Sr20det on stock bottom end, I've always heard its safe to about 400-450 max. But then again like I said, I haven't came across one...

My buddy hit 533 whp with a t70 and 1000 cc injectors. This was on a stock head gasket as well. Don't know how long it would have held that way because the upgrades came quick. (with cams and springs for the head, that's it.)

Steve Shadows old SR was making 530 on a stock bottom. But then again he can tune his own car on his own dyno so the A/F and EGT temps were perfect.

It's all in the tune. The SR is a SQUARE motor, so unless you're melting pistons or floating valves, you shouldn't have any issues with it.
