I have a long sob story I'm not going to go with right now because nobody wants to hear it. bottom line, a buddy of mine was KIA and we were putting together a 96 240 with an s14 sr20det. I had an s13 with a KA-T but i've never messed around with the SR. I helped install it, but it always was my buddy's project. His parents (next of Kin) gave me the car when they were dealing with his personal affairs. I come back from my deployment in July next year and will have more than enough money saved to make this car badass. before we left we sprayed the car again, the body work is done. the car doesn't run currently one of the last times we talked about it, he said that the wiring was good, but he thought it might have been the ECU. I know the car presently has a nismo LSD in the rear but nothing done to final drive. exhaust is stainless from the turbo back but really that's all its got. I want to make this car something that my bro be proud of, i just don't know enough about JDM motors especially the SR

last photographs i got, more will come as soon as i can get his parents to take pictures as I'm still over here. dont worry the car was painted inside a pro shop on our pre deployment leave. any help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Wel; what do you wanna know. What are your power goal/purpose for the car? The SR can be finiky. Just make sure your wiring is all sound and soldered. Buy some Rocker arm stoppers, change the gasket and all major seals and you shoud be good to go.

his goal was to build a straight up drift car with it. he wanted to be mid 400 hp range. I would like to do most of that but keep the interior mostly intact, or at least just the dash. I don't quite know what to do to be honest i'm looking mostly for ideas.

Ok so here is what you do.
1 supposrting mods similar to your KAT
Maybe some headwork and a metal head gasket (HKS Apexi or Tomei with this one)
full exhaust
Z32 MAF
CAMS
Valve springs retainers
Rocker arm stoppers

2 fuel system
a -6 an lines from tank to rail
Good FPR not a nismo one
Big injectors throw the 550's in the trash get 740's or bigger or go home remeber any think over 850 are gonna low imedence and will need resistors

3 forced induction
2817r turbo or
3071/3076

4 Tuning and electrical
Buy a nice EMS Power FC is good but i can tell you with first hand experiance it is old and dated
AEM doent work well with the CAS without some modification
Get a haltech E8 or E11 or something similar

5 Suspension

Get all Power by MAX or SPL links
Get good coilovers Apexi, HKS, Stance, (Moton) :)

Get some good wheels where you can fit some decent tire maybe at least a 235 or 245 on a 9 1/2j

6 Profit

I'm putting together my parts list based a lot around what you've told me. I have a few more kind of random questions about some of the stuff on there. 1. why the z32 MAF that's a 300z right? i'm just having a hard time figuring the USDM to JDM parts there. 2. i ran a walborough 255 fuel pump before i blew up my KA (threw a rod) that's still a good idea for the sr's right? 3. I have a T28 on there now I dk if it came stock or if he put it on there before we put the motor in. (i basically helped him drop the motor in i am not sure what he did prior to that because he'd had the motor for a few months) but would that be worth it or should i bump up to the 3076? 4. why coilovers instead of like a full suspension? I know some of these questions are probably simple to answer, but I don't get a lot of time on my computer here to do a lot of research, and i really appreciate the help man oh how do you post pictures i asked for what i could get, i have one on my computer that is just after it was painted but i dk how to upload it, (odd angle because there was a nice gash from when it got backed into during the winter)

Well the z32 maf isnt a big deal if you plan on going with a stand alone EMS the meters Air intake and manifold pressure. A z32 maf is better if you going with w rom tune becuase it meters a lot more air and is capable of metering of to 500hp.

Walboro fuel pump is ok but at around 400hp starts to get strained maybe a walboro in tank and a bosch 55 in line pump for anything much over 400 hp

The T28 would of came stock with engine if its a S14 SR20. S13 came with a t25. Either way the T28 will only support up to about 280hp depending on the tune and mods. The 3076 would be much closer and more reliable with a horsepower goal of mid 400's. But again thats a lot of power to have in a stock block. It really is all in the tune but anything after 400 in a stock SR is pushing it. But that not to say it can't handle it it just kinda of a crapshoot.

If you want a really beast setup go with a Full Race twinscroll turbo setup. With the twinscroll manifold and twinscroll
3076 turbo. The you would have enough to get to 500 hp and 450 reliably and safely with the right tune and it would almost have the same spool time as a 2871. But again it all about the tune and quality of work and a built block would be better for higher then 400hp setup .

And coils are better for adjustment and handling response when coupled with other suspension mods. Get all new SPL or power by MAX links and have it aligned and adjusted by a pro and you will have a wicked handling setup. Coils are not very good for drag racing though as it doesn't allow for to much load up on the rear. But a spring and dampener setup will almost as much as a decent coil-over setup.

And to post pictures put them on your computer to the my pictures folder, then go to photobucket.com and make a account it's free. The upload the pictures and when posting use the IMG button at the top of the post options. Then copy and paste the picture URL from photobucket in between the :bigthumb:

I know the angle is funny, but he sent this to me after the car was out of the paintbooth. there was a nice scrape along the passenger door, and back to the quarter panel. It was from when a snow plow scraped it while backing up. I'm still working on more pics but with the time difference and having to coordinate by email everything is slow. I will be posting a real build thread when i get back in july 11. where could i find a place to get my ECU tuned and the suspension set up in the GA/FL area? i've heard of a place in NC that was pretty good, but i lost it. (i'm still learning how to do things like post and use forums) I am working on a parts list, and hoping to do a month long build or so when i get home. I'll PM that your way to see about what sounds good and what needs help. I'm just hoping i can get most of my parts by the time I leave so that way when i get back I can get it to the hobby shop and spend weekends on it.

The place in NC was National Speed Inc. Where are you stationed? I'm from Cherry Point...

That is where my S13 is at now. But yeah, their shop is like walking into a show room. AWD Dyno, a lounge complete with recliners and tv, name brand parts all over the walls, a glass showcase full of turbos, and a reputation for building ridulously high hp cars. Last time I was there, they were tuning a 800+ awhp dsm. http://www.facebook.com/NationalSpeed
