sr-2-3k for a decent onemisc parts for sr- about 2klabor(if not done your self)- 1k+TOTAL= looking at 5k+ for sr swap, when you could take your 5k and have 500+hp in your Ka.
ehh its up to you bud. your car your money. either way good luck
Where are you looking at engines. I can get full swap with some of the body panels on the clip for 2000. U dont need another thing to install. If you want to do front mount, then yea, greddy front mount another 600 bucks with piping, your gonna need that for KA-t too. Thats 2600 cash, done, running turbo car, reliable,
Now KA-t. (Hypothetically speaking) Lets say you get all the turbo stuff cheap, say 400 bucks, for ebay junk, intercooler; another 600 for a greddy with piping. Now, you install your turbo kit and because your 18 year old KA wasnt up for the boost, you may need an engine because you threw a rod or spun a bearing. New KA maybe 250 bucks. You want to make sure this one will last right, so rebuild...850 - 1000 bucks later you can reinstall and put the turbo back on.
So, ya, your around 1800 for the kat so far and dont forget you bought an ebay turbo so, the shaft has worn down and the shaft has to be balanced. So you have to buy another turbo whether it be ebay or better, though better your looking at big bucks for good turbos. Then a tune, which initially can start around 500-600 bucks. Then after the rebuild, a retune, 150 bucks. Then another retune after the rebuild and bigger turbo, 150 bucks.
Now with the SR, it was installed, car would run great, and hasnt had any issues except hes tired of spinning that one wheel.
And with the KA-T, it was removed and replaced once already for the rebuild. The owner probably hasnt had that much fun with the car because it has been off the road for all the work, you have been nack and forth to the tuning shop and as glad as you are to know them, you dont really wanna have to see them anymore, and you are frustrated with your 240sx.
Now where do you see that KA-t is cheaper, easier, or more reliable. I know guys have reliable KA-t's but they normally have s14's and/or they put some decent money into them to do so.
