Post

I just purchased a 2004 Pathfinder LE 4x4 Pathfinder with 81,000 miles. I have owned quite a few Nissan's over the years plus a multitude of other makes. The most recent Nissan was a 2010 Altima Couple 3.5SR. I got rid of it in 2012 and all of that happened when I was still in the Army. Fast forward to 2015 and I live in NC again after being medically retired from the Army. In the beginning of 2012 I was shot, broke my left hip, and fractured my neck while deployed to Afghanistan. I was medically retired, received a purple heart, got 100% disability, and moved back to NC where my wife is from. I enjoy it here and have been looking for the past 8 months for a low mileage 4x4 that could take my family and I camping, fishing etc and occasionally daily drive for me. I had a 88 Cherokee that finally just had too much at 265,000 miles so I have finally found something I think I will be happy with. I don't plan on getting too crazy with it.I have always loved the VQ35DE and think it is a great engine. My plan now includs AC 2" lift springs, some nice 31's, different wheels etc. I don't want to mess with suspension geometry too much and eat CV shafts, bushings etc. Once I have it at my house and get some funds to get some parts for it I might do a SFD. I have done tons of research prior to purchasing the vehicle and I am not new to modifying vehicles of all makes and models. I have extensive background in the motorcycle and marine tech realm and have worked in the past for Triumph in bikes and Evinrude in marine engines. I am happy to be back on a forum that I always considered my favorite due to the fact that it isn't all drama and BS like a bunch of other forums that have little girls on it that just want to b****. Thank you for reading and I look forward to posting on here for Pathy. Here is a pic I took for it the day I went to look at it and test drive it. I am going to pick it up within the next week or so when I get some time to get down there. Here is also a old pic of the Altima.

Howdy, welcome back! That is a nice-looking car.

The VQ35DE is excellent, but it eats power valve screws. If yours is an auto, check out the sticky at the top of the Pathfinder index.

Yea I just read the DIY thread on that last night. For the amount of miles it has and the shape it's in I definitely think it's a sound investment to go ahead and order the gaskets etc and knock that out. I am just glad somebody took the time to write it up and post the pics. Anything else immediate I need to be looking at or doing while I already have it taken apart to that point besides plugs? I was figuring on giving the TB a good cleaning while it's disconnected. I have all the service record's for oil changes and such but nothing on fuel filter etc. With 81,238 I think I probably have some time before I need to do any major services and replacements at this point.

You said you did your research so I'm sure you did this already, but make sure its strut housings aren't problematic before you purchase!

I'd jump on anything that isn't called out in the service records  Check out my post here to see the service intervals on everything.

It's awesome you got one with those kind of miles. I mean, they're not impossible to find, but the majority are definitely past 100k. It looks sharp! If I were to get a PF, I'd definitely shoot for a platinum edition.

Thanks man for the link and great post. I do services on marine engines so I know alot of stuff is required. I have service record's of everything required by dealership while under warranty but after that it's just oil changes and tire rotations. So just like the guy on your link I'm gonna assume nothing else and just go off of those recommendations. It is book marked and once I have the vehicle, the funds, and time I will start getting the list knocked out. Again thank you.

Nice car man, and you picked a good year to, all of the bugs had been worked out by 04, make sure that the takata airbag recall has been taken care of and also watch out for that factory head unit, the 6 disc changers are notorious for skipping

Yea I called Nissan with my VIN and they said it only covered a certain number of different years but not this. Thanks though. I will look onto it more once I get the vehicle back from shop. I will also gonna be looking at the strut towers and mounts to ensure nothing is screwed up like I've seen pictures of on here. But I do believe this vehicle was originally purchased in Florida and then his wife came and they wanted to rush me.
