I am looking to buy a z32 but i am a honda enthusiast so i dont have the first clue about Nissans What if any are the problems with Z32's? Any major diffults? What years should i look out for? What is the difference between N/A and turbo and how hard is to to swap a turbo in an N/A? I know turbo and non turbo but how different are the VLSD's, transmission's, internals? How do they drive? I heard the handle like a dream. How bad are the blind spots?

Really i just am sick of my teggy and i want a car that commands more respect and can handle boost.

Thanks -Casey

Welcome to NICO, and to the Nissan world. Hang around for a bit and read up and you will learn a lot. Also, there have been many many threads about "I'm looking to buy a Z, what should I know?" Quick rundown:

1. Timing belt needs to be replaced every 60k miles, if not more often.

2. The electrical connections and vacuum hoses tend to get brittle after all these years because of the abnormally high temperatures in the engine comparment of the Z.

3. TT swap on a N/A is not for beginners.

Yea i was warned to steer clear of Z32's because they " are an awsome car to get if you are a millionare nissan master tech" I know of a shop that can do it for me but i also have a couple of friends that work at nissan and toyota dealerships that have offered me assisatance.

I have been told mixed results about there riliability but the last friend i talked to who owned one told be hands down the best car he has ever bought.

no real prob.s to look out for, vaccume leaks arent expensive at all to fix but z32's tend to be prone to them... its just a matter of buying a rubber hose from autozone

as far as body the na and tt arent different, but i think the transmission for the tt is bigger than that of the na and of course with turbo's come all the turbo accessories that na's have no need for so there will be some slight differences in motors. if you do a swapp do a front clip that will save you the time of having to bore out the bell housing, because it will come with a transmission... uh im loooking at doing a tt swap myself but im not skilled enough nore do i have the tools to do it my self so unfortunately i need to look around for a shop that can do mine for an affordible price.

how do they drive? its a damn sports car dude!

how bad are the blind spots.. ive never had a near accident experience because of a blind spot. i suppose its a litte hard to see over your shoulder if you are trying to change lanes to your lift because of that tiny little window on the side but its not that big a deal if you know how to drive and can use your side view mirrors.

beware tho if you are coming from a light car like an integra, the z is alot heavier!! im not sure of what kind of performance sports you are into... but ive been beaten by integra's and small hondas in my z on the mountain roads alot but then again i dont have a modified suspension and they are light *** cars WITH modified suspension.... anyways.....yea, sell that integra and get your hands on the Z dude! but id suggest coping a tt straight off the bat instead of getting an na, its not really worth the time and effort to do the swap unless your a real mechanic and that sort of thing is like sex to you and you cant get enough of it...

WELCOME TO NICO AND NISSANS MAN!!!!!

OH YEA.... as far as expenses go, the only people who think that a z is expensive to work on are people who work on hondas and cheap little cars. if you buy a sports car of course its going to be a little more expensive to work on than an economy car like a civic or an integra.. but its no more expensive then it would be to work on a supra, or a 3000gt... and plus when you cant breath and your heart leaps when those turbo's kick in you'll forget about all the money you put into the car

Since everyones already pointed out the few bad things about the car, I'd like to focus on the better spots.

You already have a means of transportation and your looking for boost, so look around a little and find a TT. You wouldn't be disappointed with an NA but it would be more worth it if you could just find a TT, which is not an easy task. I recently bought an NA simply for the fact that the car was in great shape.

Either way, hurry up and get the Z so you can ditch that honda.

First off, coming from an ex-teg owner no comparisons can be made between the two cars. tegs are econo-boxes marketed as cheap sports cars and z's are driving machines.

You spend 10k on your teg and somebody will still call it rice -- and it will be.

You spend 10k on a z32 and you get a car that people stop and say HOLY CRAP I LOVE YOUR CAR.

Buy a TT if you're planning on owning a TT one day, I know very few people that have pulled off a TT swap for less than the price difference between the two (some exceptions if the NA is in amazing shape, can be made).

That being said, welcome to the Nissan world.

Thank you all so much and i do believe I am going to get a Black 92 N/A slick top 2 seater 5speed. It has 180000 miles but it is only for 3200. The driver window has a blown motor so it dosnt go dow and the stereo is blown. I am gonna try to talk the guy down to 25-28 and i am gonna put the TT motor in. I have found a good local shop that will do it for around 1-2 grand.

Does that sound like a good plan?

"do it for 1-2 grand" means $1,000-$2,000 of labor. you still have to buy the thousands of dollars in parts.

i bought a z32 in january. i got one that is an NA already converted to TT and i save a lot of money on insurance. i overpaid. he asked 9500 i could have gotten it for 9, or if i had known about all the problems, 8 probably. it's got some issues.

but do i regret getting it? no way - it's freakin' incredible.

just keep some "in case" money in the bank hehe

What if any problems did you run into. And yes 1000 to 2000 in labor with a warranty. I have found numerous motors but i think i am settled on Total JDM.
