Car: 1990 Mazda Miata 1.8l swap
soon: 1990 240sx hatch

Post

Hey, my name is Eric and I'm about to purchase a 1990 240sx hatchback. It's an automatic(unfortunately), and still has the ka24e. I've never owned a nissan before, but I'm pretty excited about it. My current car is a 1990 Mazda Miata with the 1.8l swap. I used to work at Panic Motorsports, a Spec Miata prep and race shop. Here's some pics of the car:

My plans for the 240 are as follows:
clean it up. It needs a driver's fender, and a paint job. It needs a muffler, and a few other small things. Needs a five speed! (I've read the s14 auto to manual conversion, is the s13 similar? they mentioned that the wiring is one of the only things that differs between the two chassis)
Here's the 240:

I think that's about it! Thanks for reading!

Welcome to Nico!

Yes the wiring is a bit different between the S13 and S14, but I'm not sure if their transmission wiring is any different.

Here is a writeup done for the S13 convertible (the wiring should be the same in a hatchback too).

Here are some more tech links for other 240sx items.

Thanks for the welcome! And thanks for the link to the conversion! That will be high on my priority list, I suppose. I'm not too down about it, since it will give me a chance to learn about the car.

Don't get a 240sx, the Miata is superior in every way except...storage. That's it though.
I have an R package I picked up last winter that I autocross and daily drive.

Keep the Miata. You're gonna need a DD when you're a** deep into the 240 swap, frustrated as hell, and start slinging s***. Not that it won't be worth it in the end, just warning you ahead of time. ;-) Welcome to NICO! :wavey:

Welcome to the Nico (and the miata club). Hopefully you don't get rid of your '90, especially since you went out of the way to get rid of the SNC in the first model run.

Auto to manual swap won't be any trouble if you have mechanical knowledge (which it sounds like you do). I recommend getting someones old DE engine, wiring, trans, and ecu and R&R the entire setup. However, certain things are different- like the location of the p/s pump and some very basic wiring under the dash so your instruments work.

Good luck, make sure to post up the project!

Is that what happens at home? Those holes in the wall are from wrenches, not fists huh?
