Just want say hi to everyone and thank you for being here. I have decided to start a rebuild of my KA. This is my first rebuild. I am going to take my time and go slow. Watching videos and asking questions as I go. This is/was my sons car. It blew going up the 405 to the 605 in California. If anybody knows this ramp at 5pm they will appreciate the hysterics I went through trying to get to my son before he got demolished by the traffic... Ha!! Anyway, we towed it home, leased him another car and I got this wonderful dream car of mine. Always wanted to tear one down and start from the ground up. This will not be a daily driver as I have another car and plan to restore, not stock. I want to some simple mods and not turbo it. I figured if I can do this rebuild, I will consider a sr20det down the road. In California they are illegal and have to get creative to pass emmisions. I am sure I will run into many road blocks and will be begging for help here often... I appreciate it in advance.
First things first. My son described a loud rattle type sound before it started to loose power. When I got there, I asked him to start it and heard the rattle sound. To me it sounds like a piston or wrist pin. Possible a rod but who knows. I have left it off and pushed it into the garage. I will be pulling it and tearing it down to inspect what happened. I hope to the heavens the block is not scored. Either way, it's coming out.
I have a 91 5spd. I am the second owner and bought from a friend of mine. The chassis has over 300 k on it and it has had one swap already. This is before I had it though. The swap KA has maybe 180 on it. It was poorly done and anticipate having to replace a lot of stuff. I don't care about this turning into a money pit, as I am sure it might, but rather to love the relationship with this car. I anticipate owing it for many years as I have always loved the look and stance of this car. Something about it. Anyway, I will post photos as I go and hope I can get some help along the way. I work a lot so I will be replying speratlicly.
Lord help me... Lol
