hey so i just traded in my 3 series for a G coupe, because basically i realized how much of a douche i looked driving around in a bmw, and it just got kinda boring after a while. but i love my G, its way better than the beemer, and way more fun. loli love the engine note, coming from a dead silent bmw, where i can hear myself breath under full acceleration, to the g is awesome.but i just got quick question. i want to get it tinted, but it has the 3rd break light in the rear window, the tint store says they have to cut a big hole around the break light. personally i think this will look bad, and i dont feel like paying a couple hundered bucks for a cheap looking tint job. any suggestions, or ways to get around this?????thanks

Why would you want to tint the third brake light?? Could pose an unecessary hazard? No?

Anyways, I don't know anyone here that I can recall that has done this...but maybe someone else will cime in.

Most states have a law or code or memo that may or may not have been written on a burger king napkin or something stating that a 2rd brake light in the rear windshield area must not be obstructed by any objects or tint. In VA, the tint must be cut out to allow the light to be completely unfiltered. Some inspectors won't pass your state inspection if not done properly.

When they tinted my back window they simply left a cutout around the brake light.

first off welcome to NICO!

and when the tint shop did my windows they just cut around the third brake light as well...it really doesn't look that bad, you cant even really notice it.

A good tint shop will be able to tint around the 3rd brake light and make it took good.

As Steve said. Most places have laws about covering lights. I will NOT pass a car for state inspection if the lights are covered or blocked. Per the VA State Inspection book.

I had mine tinted over. But then again, I do have the spoiler with the 3rd brake light in it. Or would that be a fourth lol?

mine got the rear windows limo-tinted, and over the 3rd brake light... i have no spoiler either and i have no problems what so ever. I dont see it as a visibility issue since it is still quite bright.

I'm glad to know that. That has been keeping me from getting mine tinted. I too added a spoiler, so I have both lights. How did they get the film between the glass and the light? I have looked at package trays without the light and they really aren't that expensive. I have thought of going that route too. Any body know if those aftermarket package trays look alright? Not much to them...they couldn't look too bad.
