I recently purchased a 2008 M35X. I have all of my music on my ipod so I don't have a lot of use for the Music Box the way it's configured. My wife, however, doesn't use the ipod but does have CD's and misses the 6 disc changers so I've just begun to read about the Music Box to put some of her CD's on it.

I know there is a lot of things I would like it to do differently but there is one thing I need it to do to make it even a little worthwhile for hour after hour highway driving and before I start playing around with it I thought I'd ask here(my searches turned up just old threads and not a lot about this issue) and save me some time.

Other than "The Hack" while the car is moving is there a way to get to other artists, albums, songs etc other than the current album/artist playing? Can any of these be used? Voice Recognition, setting up a favorites list etc. Any other work around?

All help on this old old topic would be appreciated, thanks.

bump. does the lack of replies mean no one knows of any workarounds or no-one has any interest in Music Box.

Are you saying you just want to set up a Playlist?

I usually only like 1 - 3 songs(depending on the album) per album so not being able to switch to another album without stopping the car makes Music Box worthless to me. I'm looking for any workaround, trick, etc that will allow me to get to all(or most) of my music with the searches that are not grayed out.

Ahh, I see now. I think we have different versions of MusicBox as I don't have that issue. With the MusicBox in my Altima I can access albums and artists as I please, don't need to be stopped. The M doesn't have that feature as it has been eliminated this year.

I sold my 2008 last June so I can not duplicate your problem but I don't recall the same issues you are having.
I recall moving forward or backward in songs and albums quite easily with left thumb switch on steering wheel and or controls below the radio.

From my searches on this and other forums I assumed everyone had this problem. I don't have my car with me today or tomorrow but I will check again. Also I will attempt to find again the thread stating that this was normal with the Music Box and why most people didn't use it.

While the car is moving, by using the left switch I seem to be able to move 1 song at a time throughout the entire hard drive. When the last track of an album is played the next move forward of the left switch will get to the 1st song of the next album. Is this the only way to move through the music box unless the car is stopped?

While the car is moving you can also sort and play all music from either the same album or the same artist. So if for example you are playing an Alicia Keys song you can go to the menu and have the system display and play every Alicia Keys song you have on your system.

Aside from the hack I believe that is the best you can do unless your car is stopped.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I figured but was hoping different. I'm sure glad I have an ipod but I reserve that for approximately my top 250. I will use the Music Box for songs I occasionally listen to and my wife's country music(she doesn't like the ipod). I doubt she'll use it as it is currently constituted.

I would love to do the hack but I'm not secure in tearing it apart myself.

Oh well, I didn't even know Music Box existed when I bought the car. What a waste, though, of what it could be.

I found something very cool entirely by accident. This is probably something others are aware of but it is certainly new to me.

While trying to fast forward to a different part of a song by holding down on the left "up down enter" steering button(like I do on many other devices) the song didn't fast forward but instead went to the 1st song of the next album!! ;) ;) This makes Music Box much more usable for me. Yippeeeeee!

I still don't understand why if there is a passenger in the car the system won't work as if the car is at a stop. I "somewhat" understand why Infiniti would prefer the driver not have full access, even though I disagree with it, but why not the passenger?

Too bad

LOL, I also discovered that on accident. I don't use Music Box, but glad to know if I ever try it.

Also if you burn CDs as "data" instead of MP3, you can fit nearly 90-100 tracs on ONE disc. I have 6 discs in my system now: 2 discs for house, electronic, etc; 2 discs for top 40 songs; one disc with motown (gotta love Marvin, Supremes, Temptations, Stevie, Smokey, etc): and one disc is just a combination of my fave tracs of all time and all genres. I haven't added them all up but I reckon between 575 - 600 tracs all inside my center stack changer available any time. And you can move up and down the tracs on any CD with the center knob or the steering wheel gizmo.

I forget who reported this in the forum, but I owe that bloke a few pints at the pub! It was a staggering tip!
