Post

I posted on here back in 2010 when I had picked up a 2005 Q45. I drove the 05 Q45 for 6 months and had someone offer me $4000 more than I paid for it, so I couldn't pass up selling it. I sort of always regretted selling it and would periodically keep an eye out for a used Q45. I almost pulled the trigger on an 06 Q45S about a year ago, but luckily had the car inspected by Infiniti and the service advisor told me to pass on the car. Anyways, the other day an 02 came up and I couldn't pass it up. It's a one owner car, premium package with just under 78K original miles. The car was well maintained, but has a couple minor issues that don't bother me (rear sunshade is stuck and radar cruise control doesn't work). The color was one I never thought I would consider, hunter green, but it's dark enough that I can live with it. The interior is extremely clean. I do want to see if the dealer can still do the pedal/transmission TSIB on the car as the prior owner didn't know if it had been done and I don't see it noted on any of the records. The transmission does seem to still have the lag the 02 is known to have. For the price I paid, I can live with anything that happens. I'm a Lexus guy, but I do love the Q45. I also have a 92 SC400, 02 GS430 and an 06 GS430. Will gets some pictures once the rain stops.

As promised, here is a picture of the 02. We've had crappy weather here in LA, so I will get it detailed and better pictures once the weather cooperates.

Here is my 2005 exterior/interior that I sold back in 2010.

Haha, I speak the same language!

Welcome back. So, it seems you upgraded to the 02? Any big differences that you've noticed between the 2 years? I felt that they threw a few more tech goodies in the 05 06 models, but material quality went down.

Btw, might you have head-on shots of both?

To be honest, I can't really remember too much about the ride/quality of the 2005 Q45. I've had probably about 5-6 cars since that one, so they all meld together eventually. I don't know if the 02 would be considered an upgrade, but I couldn't pass it up for the condition/miles/price. We will see how long I keep it for, as I tend to switch up cars every 6 months to a year. The only mainstay in my garage is my 92 SC400 and that's b/c it was my moms and she gave it to me under the condition that I don't sell it. I've also had my 02 GS430 for over 10 years, as it's been a tank.

So far, I'm loving the ride of the Q. I don't remember my 05 being as quiet as the 02. I've also noticed in Sport mode, the 02 doesn't have much body roll in curves, where the 05 I remember seemed more cushy. I fiddled with the rear sunshade and it works fine with a little assistance. When you put it back down, though, there is a loud pop. I'm guessing it's the frame. Other than the radar cruise control, everything works fine on the car. It's shocking how much technology the 02 had.

Looking at your 02 wheels and you mentioning it's a premium, I assume you at least have the cooled front seats with the rear seats that go wheeeeeeeee.. which is a beautiful thing.
As you said, very few vehicles in the year offered the features & performance that the Q and M offered - for the price.
I feel like Nissan has always been ahead of the curve in those 2 respects. For some reason, they just never seem to like shouting from the rooftops about what they have.

On quality, not sure what happened to Nissan, but around the time the Q was retiring, their cars had some cosmetic quality issues. For example problematic interior materials - bad dashboards and the touch plastic on the center & wheel controls peeling. I haven't been in a pre - 2005 Q, but I assume they would be as buttoned up as my 03 M. I remember the 05 I test drove just didn't feel right. Plus it had some rust developing on the rear wheel wells in characteristic 5th gen Nissan Maxima fashion. I liked the goodies, but I wasn't swung enough to buy it.
