Engine is a VQ30DE
2988 CC marked on the emblem as 3000 cc
I have the 98 Maxima though
At 200K, assuming no work has been done I would focus on the suspension first
You probably need front new struts, tie rods and control arms and a wheel alignment at a minimum
I am running MOOG stuff
Check the rear suspension and see if the bushing or connectors are worn on the
lateral rod, lateral link, and trailing arms. Your rear struts are probably shot too.
If you don't correct a suspension problem the vibration will travel into your CV axles and Rack
and Pinion and wear them out early. Pick up some camber bolts-these really help.
I am hearing the Japanese struts are the best to use but I am running Gabriels or something else
and they are ok.
The most efficient bolt on has been to change the exhaust system to some sort of
cat back system-I haven't done that.
Some people like to change out the air system to
something racey to get more cold air but the horsepower change is small-it does
make more noise though. I haven't done this.
As far as engine parts go, knowing what I know now, I would try to get starters and
alternators rebuilt. The Japanese parts seem to be better that rebuilt Chinese parts
floating around.
Do you have a noisy start up in the morning with the engine quieting down when it
warms up? If so you might have a timing chain related issue.
