Everything.

It would be appropriate to replace "redo the engine" with "modify the engine".

It sounds less Newbish

Not sure what you mean spacerust.Do you want maintenance info? Do you want to rebuild the motor? Or modify it like 2BN suggested??

well this was my plan. rebuilt to factory specs. once that is done then i would start modding. you see i work at nissan dealership and the service manager told me he'd help me out. but i think all they would do is rebuild. i need to see if i could get mods and have them add them in. i thought about doing it myself but i figured i'd take advantage of my resources. looking at headers (hotshot?), cat back exhaust, and cold air intake. any suggestions?

Most mods you should be able to handle yourself. You wont make tons of power with a stock rebuild. If youre going for serious power, you'll need higher compression and some head work.

Ive heard good things about hotshot. They arent too many choices for headers on a KA, but there are more now than a few years ago. DC Sports just started making KA headers and OBX makes them too (dont know about OBX's quality).

For a catback, look for something with 3" piping and a nice looking muffler/tip. BRM (www.brmusa.com), Apex N1 and HKS Hiper are good options. BRM is owned by the same guys who run this site, so check them out. Theres a thread around with sound clips and everything...

If you want to stay non-turbo, you could replace the pistons with SOHC pistons. Use the search button to find the parts numbers i posted a few days ago. Standard power increases are pistons, cams, header, catalytic convertor, exhaust, computer upgrade. Then you could port & polish the head and intake mainfold and upgrade the head components.

By the way, what year is your 240?

There really isnt much available for the DOHC motor, but If you look around our sponser's listings you can find anything you want.

The way the SOHC pistons connect to the DOHC rods allow the top of the piston to travel closer to the head thus increasing the compression. They also are a flat top piston (im pretty sure) and not dished like the DOHC ones are.

Higher compression allows for more efficient energy transfer between the exploding gas and the piston which in turn makes more HP and torque.
