Howdy folks. FNG here. Google brought me here and I'm doing my research. First ... I have been envious for sometime now (yea, I'm the guy giving you "that" look), so here's my chance to join that club. 2nd: OK, so, I've narrowed it down to an '08 G35 Sport to add to our stable. No trade-ins, going with a checkbook and hopefully some knowledge.

Trying to look through my crystal ball, what should I look for when I talk to that dealer? What should I stay away from? ... and since this is my first 'real' car (the '03 GMC Sierra and '03 Ford EB Expedition don't count), do I REALLY need to run Premium fuel?

Finally ... 306HP? You have got to be kidding me. Tell me, will it smoke my snot nose lil neighbor in his '07 Mustang GT

I raced a new body Mustang GT at the track and ran a faster time. He got a better start cause he had drag radial so the slip says win GT but the G ran a faster time.

Heres video from my last trip to the track

The 07+ G35 is very fast... depending on weather you can run a 13.8-14.2 in the 1/4 mile. Your top speed will be 155-165 mph unless you buy an X. Some of the X's have a speed limiter.

Good luck post pics of your new ride!

One thing you may try is finding a lease return... I bought my 2007 for $28k with 14,000 miles on it from an Infiniti dealership back in July, 2007.

Welcome to Nicoclub!

First and foremost... as a new Nicoclub member, you need to make sure you spell Infiniti with an "I" not a "Y" (Some guys will give you hell for that)

Second, you have made a WISE choice my friend! You are absolutely going to love the G35... Everyday is a treat to drive it and I never tire of it's performance and amenities.

Third, You shouldn't have any problem whooping your neighbors "Rustang", but you're now in a different class than Ford! Remember that the G is sophisticated, but not afraid to show it's muscles when need be.

My advice to you is to buy as new as possible and don't take crap from dealers... shop with confidence! You're making the right choice by shopping at the end of the month, 'cause the sales reps are trying to make their numbers right now. Also, by your name... be sure to avoid any "implied consent"... get it in writing.

I bought my G35 Journey/Premium package for $32k with no miles on it, so you can get good deals out there. Don't buy from the first dealer... Shop around and make sure you're getting the car you want for the right price.

Welcome again and if you don't post pics of the new beauty, then we'll

Welcome to the G35 world.Any 08 G35 is a great car. So is a G37.

Premium fuel. I might recommend a simple search less we get into another very long thread. The short answer is yes and no, depending. (search telcoman and 87 octane)

Is the Mustang faster? Depends. There is one in my garage (06). Two different cars. One thing to keep in mind is that mods to the Mustang are ubiquitous and inexpensive compared to those for the G. Look at Fast Fords and Mustang magazines and you'll see what is possible with the Mustang. The G shines exactly where it was intended to shine - ride, quality, fit and finish, and class. Who really needs more.

Again, welcome to the G world.

Welcome to NICO and glad to have you onboard.

Go here for additional car buying advice

zeromain?id=104

There are 1000,000,000,00 posts on Octane... my advice is to use the recommended grade. If you do a quick search... you will see MANY posts on this.

You should be able to take your neighbour... at the track I assume. But if he does edge out and beat you... think of it this way... at the end of the day... he's still driving a Ford.

Again, welcome to the club!

And a Corvette is still just a Chevy and a Viper is still just a Dodge.

G35 and Mustang are not in the same class. Just like Porsche/Lambo are in a higher class then Vette/Viper/GT

Or maybe thats just my opinion...

But the GT is an awesome car! I would love to own one... but would not give up my G to own the GT.

Welcome to NICO!

Nice to see another Henry county NICO member!!!

To answer some of your questions, the fuel topic is debated (quite extensively)...search for the thread, but be warned it went WAY off topic. Basically, if you want to get top performance from the G35, use premium fuel.

If you want to save some cash, look for last years models. Union City and Gwinnett Infiniti usually have online specials that are decent. If you want a 4-door, get the 07 sedan....2-door, 05+. Hit me up if you have any more questions!

Welcome to NICO

Premium fuel you ask. Not necessary if you ask me. Others differ but it has been brought out on other posts that dealers deliver vehicles with a full tank of regular. Perhaps that was why I never noticed any difference in my vehicles performance when I first filled the tank at the 3/4, 1/2, and 1/4 marks when I first took delivery. I was assuming it had a full tank of premium?Christmas and New Years Eve are the two best days to haggle and purchase if you can wait that long. Driving sales people crazy between now and then can be fun.

Good luck

(Hi Joe603!) OK, first ... my sincere apologies about the "Y" in Infiniti. It's just natural to spell that way quickly. Ouch. Lesson learned.

2nd: Went to the Infiniti dealer today. Looked at the G35S, G37 and G35 Sedan. IMO, they are all top shelf cars. I then took off to the Lex** dealer and took a look at the IS350. Not taking anything off the top, but that's a great car as well. Headed over to BMW and their 3-series... finally to the Mercedes dealer for the C350.

It's a whole new world to me, this quasi-luxo butt rocket world. I am thoroughly impressed with the fit/finish of these higher end imports. I'd been told about it over/over, but I'm a simple kinda guy ... but my wife isn't. I've gotta keep her happy.

What made her happy was not the BMW's, Lex**, or Mercedes (although there was a fair bit of interest there), but it went back to the G35 Sedan (not the S-coupe), but 4door sedan.

So.. me.. being the knucklehead, look for the 6speed manual. Nope, she thought it over and wanted the auto (palm-face). OK, so now we're down to color/trim/options. Nav is a must and boy, I'm impressed with it's Nav. The rear camera is pretty cool, the appointments are great ... but I was fairly impressed with the very smooth shifting and the power of the 3.5l.

BTW, I was just joking about the neighbor ... his dad and I would kill him if he approached 3k RPM in that thing (well, 3.5 or so... )

So, where are we? Cool off period for both of us. We have 2 cars already. We don't need it, just kinda ... umm .... want it. We either sink money into another car or save it.

GREAT responses here... GREAT! GREAT car (yep, still giving you "the eye"). The papers are drawn up and waiting. It's a pearl white / some kinda beige interior / Journey--something / with some crazy hard-drive radio, NAV, backup camera, auto, umm... hmm.. kinda late. Forgot the other "stuff".. oh, 18" wheels ... blah, blah.

Hopefully, the next time I post, it will be accompanied with Pix. The last thing I want is to see this:
