Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

hello every one, i recently got the ex35 AWD Arabian gulf specifications. and i was surprised when i knew that the RWD is faster from 0-60.i thought that the AWD will be faster since the tires wont spin. so can any one explain to me why the RWD is faster than the AWDthanks

The RWD is lighter than the AWD by 200 lbs. AWD is much heavier. It's like having to add one big 200 lb. person sitting in your car, while you're driving. So it gets slower. RWD is lighter and therefore much faster by 0.7-1.0 seconds

Not to mention that AWD sucks up a little more power when you are starting up - when you are gunning from a stop, the majory of weight is placed on the rear tires, giving them more grip.

RWD will be faster since its lighter and the tires wont spin, thanks to VDC(Vehicle Dynamic Control)/TCS(Traction Control System) equipped transmission.

I think it's a combination of both factors:
You're adding weight, but not power.
And you have to factor in the friction factor. I believe it's related to the 1st law of thermodynamics. Some of that rotational energy (kinetic energy due to the rotation) is converted to heat due to the friction of the additional moving parts.... er.... or something like that.
