Hi everyone,I have always been a German car guy, but I recently traded in my 2004 Audi A4 Ultra Sport for a 2006 G35 coupe 6MT (Lakeshore Slate Metallic ) and I can't stop grinning from ear to ear. I did get the extended warranty, but I am wondering are there any issues with these cars (things I can expect to go bad)? Also, in the middle of my gauge cluster "REV" is constantly illuminated....I can't seem to find out what it means....any thoughts?

Thanks,Mike

Welcome to NICO!!

Congrats on your new toy!

No real issues with your year. Check your oil regularly in case you are of the rare few that experiences oil consumption.

The "REV" is for your shift indicator. You can cycle through your odomoeter and set it to go off (RED light under the REV) at a desired RPM.

Welcome to NICO and to Infiniti!!

First let me say that the G35 is very comparable to any luxury sport coupe, and usually it beats the competition.

The model you have in the 05-07 year is a 6MT with the "REVUP" engine. There are some engines that are prone to consuming oil. It's under warranty and after an oil test you get a brand new powerplant. But, I don't think it's as widespread as forums would make you believe. It's just a case of people will complain before they will praise...meaning that you don't hear about the thousands of G's that don't have the issue.

I have an 05, and she doesn't consume a drop of oil! In fact, the engine has been one of the best I've ever had when dealing with oil (burning or leaking).

The best advice is to run a good synthetic like Royal Purple or Motul. Regular oil/filter changes will ensure that you don't cause any problems. (good advice for any car IMO).

Now, about your gage cluster light...that's normal. I'm not sure why they designed the "REV" to stay illuminated...Anyway, you can set your REV limiter to flash at different engine RPMs. Just hold the trip counter reset button and set to the desired RPM. It will not cut the engine, it's just a flashing notification so you can shift at a certain RPM without looking at the TAC.

Make sure you check out the G-series FAQ (link in my sig) for tons of info.

...now, any plans on modding?

Thanks for your kind welcome, and helpful info...I really appreciate it.I did quite a few mods to my Audi....Cat-back exhaust, K04 Turbo, software, etc...but after all of that I was only at about 250hp/275ft-lbs.....right out of the gate I've got more to work with stock than that. I have only had the G for a couple of days so I really haven't pushed it to the limits yet. I imagine down the road I will do a Stillen exhaust....any other thougths? I really do not want to add a turbo or supercharger, so that won't be an option. Is there much gains with a Stillen exhaust or other true dual exhaust systems on the G? What has really surprised me thus far is the build quality of the Infiniti, over on some of the Audi forums the guys bash the hell out of it.....but to be honest, the reason I switched was I was tired of spending the money on the maintenance for an Audi.....clutch, timing belt, blah blah......seemed like every year there was something I had to do that was $2000. The Infiniti just feels like a solid piece of machinery, and the suspension is incredible (I have the Aero package)....I know it has only been 2 days, but I am very excited about my purchase.....I keep finding excuses to run to the store

If you're going to stay away from Superchargers and Turbos...

You'll want these for some quick "go fast" parts

intake/ZtubeMREVII5/16 spacerExhaust (I went with Stillen...so did Joe) Fast Intentions is REALLY nice too but $$$Probably a UR Pulley SetMay Grounding wires (lots of info on this here too)

Ah, brings back memories of when I first got my G. Grin from ear to ear for quite some time. Those were the days...

One thing I would look out for is your CD player/radio unit. A few of them have been prone to failing. They can be fixed, but if it were me, I would just put in an aftermarket one if that happened to me (I'm going to put an aftermarket one in anyway).

A guy I work with is really into Audi. He has an A4 I believe. He and a buddy test drove a G and an Audi back to back and really liked the G and were pleasantly surprised.

I second the NA mods G_whizz lists. I personally have a JWT intake with the Z-tube, which is the intake tube from the Z car, which doesn't have the baffles the G-tube has. Stillen makes an intake as well. The best thing to do may be to combo the JWT filter with the Stillen air box, but you have to buy both intakes to do so.

Stillen's exhaust is one of the best out there in terms of sound and performance and is very popular. Another one that looks to be a hit is Motordyne's new exhaust. One of our members just switched to it and loves it; you'll find that review in the G-Series General Chat.

Welcome.

G_Whizz has a good list. The best bang-for-the-buck mod I did on this car was the MREV2 lower plenum intake. That 1 mod transformed the car!

I would definitely do the intake first then exhaust.

1. JWT or Stillen PopCharger2. Motordyne MREV23. Motordyne 5/16 plenum spacer Next should be the exhaust. I went with Stillen TD because it had great reviews. The HKS is the best, if you can swallow the $1700 price tag.

I don't have underdrive pulleys because I have a large aftermarket amp for my stereo. I didn't want to kill my alternator any more than I had to.

Grounding wires will not give you much...it's more of an AUTO trans upgrade.

For me, the next step is to go FI. It's really hard to justify the cost to the wife....maybe when the G is paid off

If you can handle the CHATTER, look into an aftermarket lightweight clutch/flywheel.

My 6mt put down over 270rwhp with that and a K&N drop-in filter
