I have owned two '88 mustangs, one of which was built nicely. I have recently become interested in the Silvia cars from Japan. So the obvious choice here is to purchase a 240. What is the best vehicle to purchase if you plan to build a nice daily driver that is pretty quick (i.e. year, model). Thank you in advance for your help.

I like the 89 - 98 240's. I also like the coupe and the hatch... I have seen both done right so i know which way i would want to go with either. I was just hoping that someone could give me some insight as to if one was easier to build up, or if one has a turbo and another doesn't. Here is a clip of my last car (project) that i had http://members.dslextreme.com/...x.wmv

Do u want to keep the stock motor and build it up or go Sr20det or maybe even one of the skyline motors? If u want to build up the stock motor i go with a 91-98 240sx because it is the DOHC motor. and if u are into looks any want a smaller car id go with the fast back. IF u want it to look mean id go with a 95-98 and do the kouki conversion or the s15 conversion.

Well, it all depends on what my options are. I live in California so i'm probably very limited in what motors i can swap. I'll have to look into that body kit you mentioned. Is there a weight difference with the hatch and the coupe? I know the mustang coupes are lighter then the hatchbacks.

89-93 coupes are lighter than 89-93 hatches, but not by much. 95-98 240's are heavier than both the previous options but also have alot more body rigidity. None were availible with turbo from the factory, but there are Carb legal turbo kits for 95-98 240sx's. The early body style (S13 chassie code) was also availible in convertable form from 92-94.

My suggestion: Read alot, and if you end up buying one, read some more before you go all out buying stuff you might end up not wanting. These cars are incredibly capable on the track (those of the curvy type) with just some basic suspension mods.

Correct me if Im wrong but to my knowledge none of the turbo kits out there are actually CARB approved. They might have applied for CARB approval and is pending. And the ones that are CARB pending are Greddy and Turbonetics...

Sounds like you like just about every '40 ever conceived. j/k I'm no smartass. But really just try to talk with people that own these cars. They'll tell you everything. I'll throw in some biased info here...you might want to turbo the KA since you obviously seem to know what torque feels like.
