Hey Guys,

New to forum just wanted to say whats up. I have an infiniti i30 right now and i am lookingat attempting to get the coupe in about 3 months. Im in AZ for school and my car is staying here while i go back to jersey for the summer. Well the car is a 96 and on it's way out so i am specing out some new cars. Of them they are the alt coupe, g35, mercedes c350, and some others. I am concentratings on these cars mainly.

Heres my speaker question. I test drove the coupe the other day with a 3.5 and fell in love with it. However, i didnt get a chance to see where the speakers were all located. I plan to personally install a double din touchscreen HU and replace all of the factory speakers with alpine type x components connected to an external alpine amp. O yes, the big boy amp pushing 150 a channel.

Well the fact that i didnt take note of the speakers, i am unsure of the total number actually. I believe non-bose 6 speakers? and bose is 7 with 2 subs correct? I just need to know size and locations of both bose and non bose setups. Only reason i want to know the bose setup is incase the sub placements benefit me somehow, but i am sure i could get the mounts off the net if need be.

ALSO, if i do get the bose sound system, is the alternator larger? there is a larger system running in that so i dont know if they beefed it up at al or kept it the same and just left a large in for all models.

Aside from speaker questions and what not, have any of you noticed any issues with the 3.5? Anything at all, factory issues, driver made issues? I just need to know what to expect if i do purchase one. My mom likes em, and she is the push for me to sell my car now along with my father, so i would be financing this one and personally, i dont want to buy something that is absolutely riddled with problems if you catch my drift.

thanx in advance everyone, chea yeah, its a ***** to read but i appreciate you guys.

ps, i am a bose aftermarket wiring guru, if you guys have any common bose questions, id be more than happy to help if i can. ****ing bose sux when it comes to fixes and replacement.

yo i have 0 experience in tha matter... but i kno u'll get some help soon, rjdmmfl1 is another speaker guy... and i'm sure many others will chime in soon enough.. what i do know, is that the bose sys has the amp set upside down in the middle of the rear deck.. (i really hope i'm not fudging this up from memory when i read it on NICO, *to anyone else, i'm sorry and plz correct me*)

from what i know, the 3.5 is a great engine, no problems there, won "ten best" award ..many years in a row.. there are some rattling problems here and there, (with both the 2.5 and 3.5) but i have a feeling it had to do with fast production early on and they weren't taking the time to prep it right or something cuz (just buying the 2.5 in March, i don't hear/feel any rattling, but we'll see.. I think from all the feedback and bringing attn to the rattlings and etc, they might have been a lil more stringent Jan on.. mebbe.. just mi .02 cents

btw.. noticed that u in jersey, if u do buy this car, and do the speaker install, lemme kno cuz i got the 2.5 w/bose and was also thinkin about an upgrade sometime in the future but i have the slightest of a clue to start.. (i.e which company is better, good sound/base, better performance, 10inch vs 12inch, custom box, fiberglass ???? whatt?) saddness is i'd prolly jus throw money at the thing and may not get a good deal as well as a good product..

another thing, i think this is a greattttt *** car, especially the 3.5, you'll have the best time with it and STILLEN especially has given it alot of attention with their aftermarket parts, i think it's good that a company is backing the a/c like that.. bsides it's like the g35's lil brother than whoop's his *** (well if they're both auto's) lol

hey man, thanx for the input, hopefully by august all of the rattling issues will have been resolved. I hate rattles. I will prob wind up doing some sound dampenining in the doors considering they are a major part of the car haha, its only so big.

Yee man, i live right next to hackensack, so we be close.

As for audio, i can tellyou what companies make a poor decent good great and excellent product but i can't tell you what will sound good to you. You need to go to a store and listen to what they have on display as far as speakers and decks go, subs, should really be listened to in its proper enclosure.

my sound tastes have changed from past till now. I have two alpine 12" types r's in a custom built ditted box to my I30, which i built and speced out myself. I have gone from i want a ****ton of bass with subs to i want more bass from my speakers and more power from my speakers instead of subs. I would rather have my speakers handle the lows better as well as be loud enough to appease my audiophile taste. Of course i will keep my subs and what not and probably turn them into some home stereo equipment, and probably keep my 1000 watt mono amp which i am quite fond of. Im a pack rat when it comes to electronics .

hit me up on aim SuBZeRo69069 if ya wanna talk more.

I also do custom LED projects, whatever appeals to me at the time. so far i have done a custom third brake light and vent LEDS.

i also did some research and the A/C 3.5 has 6.5" components in the front with 6x9's in the rear in the non bose version. I dont like 6x9's so i would probably customize it to fit more 6.5's.

Hey subxero--

Can you confirm that it is not possible to use an aftermarket amplifer to supply more power to the stock 9 speaker bose system in the 3.5SE coupe?

And yes, its 7 speakers, 2 subs in the premium sound system.

3 front dash, 2 front doors, 2 rear seats, 2 subs behind rear seats at top trunk.

No issues at all, just some squeeking here and there (bunch of people reported this however I've only heard the noise once or twice ever)with the seatbelt/drivers seat itself. But if youve got your tunage up, you wont hear it. Love the car. Go for it. You'll thank yourself!

Yes, this is true, although BOSE does not post specs on the speakers themselves, they are known to be 1 ohm speakers. BOSE does this in ordert to make it hard for their speakers to be used with aftermarket, non-bose parts as a marketing ploy to keep your *** with bose for the life of the product.

Now you dont want to replace the bose amp because its designed for the system they built. Plus, for you to reconnect everything the right way and have the impendence run at 1 ohm from the amp is not a likely scenario. There have been people who have run their bose speakers off of a headunit directly and never had issues, but personally speaking, i think that is a recipe for disaster and the likelyhood of you burning your amp out is much much higher. AKA, dont do it.

Replacing parts and or fixing bose sound systems is very costly, time consuming, and not worth it. If you ever have issues witht he bose, do not bother getting it fixed by the deal unless **** is under warranty. Otherwise, i urge you to just replace whats broken. If your bose Headunit breaks, this is ok, you may purchase a new one and buy a conversion harness. Make sure that your new HU has preamp outs so that you can use the refinded low-level signal to send a signal to the bose amp. However, if you blow a speaker, you may as well just dump the wholebose system, headunit included and replace the whole damned thing. As BOSE systems get older, they deteriorate and parts for replacement get scarce.

so the final answer, aside from the lil shpeel i gave is NO, you may not use an aftermarket amp to replace the bose one in the trunk.
