I just got an 03 I35 with 112k on it..so far...i love it but i have a few questions/concerns

1) I believe it needs a new right rear hub bearing (noisy). Does that come as a hub assembly or just a bearing? If not will i need a press?

2) Not always but sometimes when i start the car the "A/T Check" message blinks a few times (5-15 times? for about 8 to 10 seconds) and then shuts off...but not always...is that something i should be concerned with? I dont notice a change in driveability its just odd to me that it does it sometimes and not others..pretty regularly though...i used search and found some FSM's but the pages are no longer available :frown:

3) I purchased the car with 1 key and no key fobs. From what ive read it seems like i can order fobs and program them myself rather easily...is that true? Are the keys a different story? Will i need to shell out the money for the keys and to have them programmed?

4) Is premium fuel recommended or required? I havent been using it but i notice a ping so i was curious about that

Thanks...love the forum so far

1. I know you can buy them as an assembly, but you should be able to purchase the bearing alone (you'll need a press).

2. You can take it to Autozone or some other store and get it scanned for codes for free. See if there are any codes stored.

3. Fobs you can program. Keys you have to have programmed by the dealer.

4. The fuel maps are designed for premium. I only use premium in my 02 Max.

Thanks so much. I won't need a press if I but the assembly, correct? Or am I mistaken?

You're correct, the assembly should come complete with the bearing installed. I would make it a point to confirm that with whoever you end up getting the part from.

What part did you go with? Was it a Timken Wheel bearing or? Part number? Same thing happening on my 02 I-35 right rear. Its the bearing for sure.

Might perform a front end check on your car while the bearing is being repaired
and you have the rear axles down
I paid about $400 for Moog front end parts from Oreilleys ( control arms, connecting
rods, inner and outer tie rods)
Seems awful soon for a bearing repair
Maybe the car has been handled kind of rough?
