Post

Hello,

I'm taking on the task of learning a new skillset by rebuilding a car. I work and play in the tech industry and have always loved driving so when an opportunity to purchase a JDM Right Hand Drive 1984 Fairlady Z I jumped right in.

Subsequently I purchased what I thought was a JDM VG30ET engine that would be the right engine for the JDM vehicle instead of the USDM engines. I now have two VG30ET engines.

I spent many hours at the pick-n-pull and was able to get an entire body and console wiring harness off an 1985 300ZX, but don't know if I can use it in my JDM car because everything is opposite. Same thing with the engine harness.

I don't know much, but I'm pretty sure whoever had this car before me was a complete and total ********. There are holes drilled where I'm pretty damn sure there aren't supposed to be holes. The wiring...oh God. I was an aviation electronics technician in the Navy - I'm pretty sure all the wiring in this car is FUBAR.

I would be so grateful for any help, advice, assistance, guidance!

I'll let the pictures tell the rest of this story...

Very cool project! You might want to consider an aftermarket harness from Painless or redoing the whole thing yourself. Bad wiring can lead to months of troubleshooting or cause a fire. There are standalone ecu options as well. It's really up to the budget and motivation honestly.

Welcome to Nico! Awesome job putting all the engine p0rn in your first post!

this looks like a project that could be a nightmare, its only my opinion but i would get a us car that doesnt need so much work, and keep/sell off whats on this for spares,if i was dead set on doing this i personally would work with whats in the car if nothings burnt out or sections of the loom hacked out,if all the wirings under the bonnet get the jdm engine wired in,then get rid of all that speaker wire/extra wires crap somebody has done in the dashboard, and repair/replaced all the cut bodged wires in there and plug in everything thats unplugged, use the ecu thats already in the car hopefully its good, but its a lot of work and time and theres sure to be problems, may the lord give you guidance :poke:
