Hey I got a 1996 240sx w/ just some basic bolt ons but I wanna go turbo but my engine has 100+ miles. I wanted a SR swap but that's too expensive right now. Bottom line:how much will it take for me to buy a ca18det w/ everything needed (and what would i need?)?I can get some1 to install it for me I just need the long block and miscellaenous stuff.Sorry I'm in a hurry are there sites that import CAs? How is the aftermarket support for the CAs?

Thanks

sorry for this but I was in a hurry to get to class now i'm already outside of class... anyway I got some more questions -sorry I haven't done alot of searching yet this was just on spur pof the moment, I got tired of messing w/ the KA, knowing I won't really get pwoer out of it unless I turbo it- but please don't flame (^^) ... anyway how realible are CA motors? is there any possibility I can get all parts needed for the swap minus the intercooler for les than $1200?

also any s14 owners w/ CA swaps - your comments and opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks

CA aftermarket is great.... if you live in japan. Here, its not too bad. all the things you'll need can be custom made for about the same price you would pay for the stuff in japan. It'll just take longer as its not premade.

you would need a long block, harness and computer along with all associated sensors. If you have money to burn, just get the front clip. all the parts you'll need are all there. you can get a clip for around $1750 from http://www.venus-auto.com installation rates will vary, but figure on about $800 to $1000 for a rough estimate. that would be with wiring and everything.

once you start reading more about this motor, you will see that it is actually better than the SR20. they built the SR20 because the CA18 was too expensive and to well built to turn a decent profit on it.

Not that anyone really even cares.... but just remember.....

It is illegal to put a motor in your car that is older than the car itself!!

I see you're in Atlanta. If you want to get more familiar with CA's, I have one mostly built on an engine stand, and you're welcome to come help with the swap in a couple weeks. I'm south of the city, peachtree city area.

i would but i don't know enough to really help you with anything except an extra pair of hands...i looked around and it seems the general consensus is that it is around 1500 for parts for a complete CA swap, and about 1000 for the labor.it also seems that these CA motors will need maintenance since they are relatively old, - so that's more moneyin atlanta its around 130-150 to "pass" emissions everyyear so that's even more money...

before that I was thinkin wow 1200 for everything, then 1000ish for labor and I got myself alot of potential, now I am not so sure -

seems like every1 around me is going turbo or a s/c I just can't keep up w/ them anymore... so now i really don't know what to do. lately I've been fliting w/ the idea of building a custom kit but I'm one of those that don' really trust turbo kits on non turbo engines, I am a firm believer that it will severely cut down the engine's life span.
