Hello,

I'm new to the boards, I just received a 1990 240sx for free. Only thing is the car had no engine and a broken trans. Well I put in a KA engine myself and an newer trans. I got the car started and it works but I'm having a few problems now.

First, the guy that owned the car before me almost emptied the Master and Slave Cylinders. So after I put in the engine and trans, I tried bleeding them today, but for some reason I don't get any pressure to the rear brakes? Every time I open the bleed valve, it doesn't let any pressure or fluid out? Do I need ot replace the Master cylinder?

Second, I rebuilt the clutch, I bleed it and it seems to be working fine but when I push the clutch all the way down to start the car, at that same level of pressing the clutch pedal I can't shift the trans in to any gear, but when I let go of the clutch a little then I can go in to gear. Whats the problem? It seems that if I push the clutch all the way down it won't let me get in to gear but if I pushi it just enough then it seems fine. Is this okay?

Any help would really be appricated! Thanks

Brakes: make sure the master is full, open both the L/R bleeder screw and let it sit for awile open. watch for fluid to begin trickling out of the bleeder. could be as much as 20mins. then do the R/R wheel. That one should start dripping fluid pretty quick after doing the left side. once you have fluid back there then do the bleed procedure.

Clutch: try adjustind the pedal. the rod from the master attaches to the clutch pedal with a fork type attachment this is called a clevis. It is held to the pedal with a pin through it and the pedal this is the clevis pin. what you need to do is with the pedal all the way up [not applied] adjust the rod so that the pin has no pressure on it. It should be free floating in the hole. This will give you the ideal pedal adjustment. then recheck it.

Nistech,

Thanks your advise for the brakes worked great. It only took about 20 sec for the fluid to start coming out. I bleed it and it is just like a brand new brakes, well I did install SS lines.

About the Clutch I tried to adjust it but the fork (attached to the pin) is to long to rotate. Am I just supose to rotate the rod itself? well I'll try that in the morning.

One more thing, since I got to bleed the brakes. I test drove it for the first time today. I do have a few more quest though. I still have the getting in to gear problem but also when I let go the clutch all the way it seems to jerk forward sometime when it gets to 3k rpm on first. I only got to 2nd gear because this car is not insured yet and I don't have it fully registered as well. Also I don't have an exhaust on the car so I could drive it long. Does this sound like a misaligned clutch problem? I did the install myself.

on the clutch you just lossen the nut on the rod and rotate the rod itself till the fork becomes loose around the pin. Then secure the nut back up.

Hey Nistech,

I did the clutch today but only had a littel time. It really helped I can get it in to gear a bit more easier now, but I think I still think i have to adjust it just a tad bit more.

Thanks,Kim
