I'm entered into an autocross here at school on the 20th. My car has little or nothing done to it, although this weekend i replaced the front brakes.

I've never participated in an autocross, nor ever been to one. Does anyone have any advice to help me out. I don't need to make a fool of myself as a freshman here at Tech. Thanks guys.

Andy

Always get there early and walk the course. Also if they hand out maps go over it adding notes like which way to enter the salom. Since you are a begginer you will probably run G-stock(GS). Once you do an kind of suspension work you go up in class the same with motor work. You will also have to have a Smell 90 or newer helmet or borrow a loner one. Make sure you have a battery tie down, nothing loose in your car, tires aired up properly, good brakes, etc. your first run just run slow to get use to the setup the increase your speed each run. Its ok to hit cones the first time just don't take them home, they get pissed. Nick

From the looks of your mods you will be running STS, which is a street tire class. Its mostly a suspension class. Nick

take extra tires on extra rims [and stuff to change tires].. a helmet.. and do ALL the things you want to on the street [as long as you follow the rules and course setup of course]. autocross is supposed to be fun, a learning experience. not everyone there is a pro, so dont try to be and dont worry about impressing anyone. just have a good time. its a lot of fun and you'll definitely want to go more and more.

I don't think you need a couple sets of wheels when you first start. My biggest advice is to try to look two gates ahead all the time, that way you get a great looking line and you will drive much smoother. Also driving a basically stock car is a great way to start. When I first started I was trying to drive my S14 with a modded SR and basically no suspension mods except for springs and shocks. Man It was much harder to drive. Yesterday I drove my bone stock S13 and I did very well. The S13 was much easier to drive. Also just remember have fun. I get pissed sometimes when I have a bad run but then I just remember its all fun.

My advice: Do not get pissed and blast through way too fast, take out a few rows of cones, spin your car, then continue to white smoke the hell out of your tires. The people running the event will get very pissed. Do not inquire as to how I know this. :batman
