Ok 240 guys im new to NICO and 240s used to hand me down cars 76 accord 94 corrolla and 02 blazer. Wanted a 240 for years finally got the money for one. So i found a 1990 hatch on craigslist was over heating so i got it for 1400 put in new thermo and radiator fixed that problem. And did a block check to make sure of no blown gaskets. Now there are a few problems with my car id like to ask you about. When i start it, it doesn't always start right away and sometimes it dies shortly after and have to restart it, any ideas of that problem? When i shut it off you can smell its running way to rich im familiar with carbuerTors and fixing that problem with them but no idea how on this. When i hot rod the car it grinds/ doesn't really want to go into gear 5th is also much harder to find then the rest on highways i often put it into 3rd and have to quickt readjust. But doesn't bring or anything when i drive normal is that just stock trans not being able to shift fast? My clutch also makes a squeak sound when pressed. My engine also seems to shake a lot like at times the entire car will move. Last of all the guy lost the piece that holds radiator down so it rattles a lot sounds really bad how can i fix that and are there any other problems i should look for? Thank you. last of all, all performance parts cams turbo everything is only for 91 up since they changes the ka. So did i get the wrong years or will those upgrades still work?. I'm also looking at an in ken air intake system and isis test pipe and single gt exhaust system for better breathing and sound does that shooing like a good idea?

Welcome to the best Nissan forum around! Definitely post some pictures of the new (to you) 240! Most engine mods don't cross over between the single cam KA24s and the dual cam KA24s (91+). The test pipe and catback exhaust are interchangeable, but from the intake tube to the intake manifold, head, and exhaust manifold are all different. The block is similar, but there are some differences. What state do you live in? Do you have emissions laws? How strict? The reason why I ask, is because this will dictate what sort of options you have in terms of engine mods or swaps you can do. Also, before starting out doing modifications, what kind of budget do you have and what are your plans for the car?

As for the issues; 240s are notorious for having sensor/electrical/vacuum leak issues which cause them to run less than ideal. Using the factory service manual you can run through various diagnostics to find out your issues. Here's the link to the FSM: http://www.nicoclub.com/archives/nissan ... nuals.html

The transmissions are also known to be fairly worn with a lot of miles. You can try your luck with a used transmission or rebuild the one you have. Used transmission's go for pretty cheap ($200-$400 range typically). The clutch squeak is most likely do to the pedal needing a little lube. Engine probably shakes due to low RPMs correct? Might want to check out the motor mounts.

Anyways, welcome aboard!Hopefully more can chime in.
