I just want to SEE the damn thing!

I honestly think this is the new model reveal I'm looking forward to most this year. The current Titan was excellent when it launched, and I get the feeling Nissan's delay in replacing it has been due to wanting to really hit it out of the park this time. I hope the wait will end up being worth it!

The test mules I saw at [place deleted] and the camouflaged units I've seen coming from the test track are massive.

Clearly a direct shot at the F250 - Very blocky, angular, and rugged.

As I recall, the next generation Titan was going to be based on the Dodge Ram. It was supposed to debut two years ago, but between Chrysler's bankruptcy (necessitating bringing design back in-house) and the earthquake and Tsunami that struck Japan, the whole project was delayed.

The entire partnership with Chrysler was scrapped. I think the only thing Nissan got out of the deal was the phone number for Cummins. Make no mistake, the new Titan has nothing to do with Ram.

I'm interested in seeing the new titan as well. Hopefully Nissan has addressed the reliability issues.

I'm pumped to see this thing, myself. I could very realistically own a full size truck within the next couple of years, and I would love to give this thing a shot if it's the juice is worth the squeeze.

The Cummins they're stuffing into this thing is so much more than the 3.0 EcoDiesel the Ram is using. It could be a bit of the gamechanger for the half-ton truck market.

From what I understand, Nissan is really looking at filling out their lineup with this thing. I already think the majority of full size pickups are waaaay too damn big for what 90% of people use them for, and this thing is going to be as big or bigger. So they have the frontier handling the midsize pickup realm, now they will have a Titan 150 for the F150 type stuff, and a Titan 150 plus for the bigger stuff (which the diesel will come in).
Clearly they benchmarked the F series for this truck.

I keep hoping they'll release a small truck again like my hardbody, but without the suck engine and the weak 1/4 ton capacity. Maybe they could call it the "Teen" Titan?

Hmm. Disappointing. I don't want or need an overdone pen15-compensator. What I need is a WORKHORSE.

The Frontier SHOULD be the logical choice for most people. Smaller, better handling, easier to drive and park, plenty capable, etc.

Last I heard, the new Titan is so serious, you'll have the option of getting it with a 5th wheel trailer attachment. Not sure quite when that will be hitting the market though.

:werd:

The Frontier is more than capable of doing way more than what most people need. It's everything James said. The manual seems to do better in the towing department than the automatic. We were going to a car event up in Williams a couple of years ago. Elevation change was about 5,500 feet, door to door. We were hauling the Dime on the trailer. A good friend of ours was hauling his Dime with his Frontier as well. Only difference in the trucks was Ryan's is a King cab automatic. Everything else = same. Leaving from the same location at the same time, we beat him up the 17. We were already checked into the hotel and unloading the car when he pulled up. He also mentioned that his truck didn't like the last three or four miles of that particular interstate, and that he wished he had been able to drop it a gear.

Yeah, for some reason, most Americans think they need a full size pickup. Truthfully, most of them could do fine with the NP200:

It could haul mulch and other random pickup jobs just fine.
The Frontier can haul cars and small to midsize boats just fine.
The Titan would be for hauling massive horse trailers, or huge boats, etc.

That was probably the second-most fun car to drive at the 360 event. I'd LOVE to own one.

Me too. I'd rather have that than the truck I do now. It would at least haul just as much! lol

Hence why I'm making myself (or have already made) a 240sx truck. Its pretty much the best thing ever.
Every time I take it out, someone offers to buy it.

^I saw that video a while ago. Its pretty dumb. They keep talking about Smyrna. No Titan has ever been produced in Smyrna. There was no mention of the Canton plant at all... which is who makes the Titan, and has also made the frontier since model year 12.5.

Didn't Nissan poach someone from RAM trucks to head their truck division?

Something like that. Way I understood it is they were working WITH Chrysler, and things went south, but they retained their contacts with Cummins, and well.... yeah.

Instead of Teen Titan, how 'bout Titan..ic? Like the current Titan, it's got plenty of power, comfortable, and hauls a lot. It just doesn't handle ice very well. ;)

I was actually hoping for a Ram-based Nissan.

The Dodge Ram is by far the best-driving, most enjoyable pickup on the road. It tracks straight and true, has seats that cradle you like the hand of god, and are a breeze to work on. I regret selling mine.

I'm a fan of Rams as well. But I want diversity in the marketplace, and badge engineering goes terribly wrong far more often than it goes well. If we could have guaranteed a Prism scenario (better styling and more affordable than the parent vehicle) I'd not have complained much. But at the end of the day--if I want a Ram I'll buy a Ram. I want the Titan to be something different.

As "cool" as diesels are, I fail to see the point unless you literally will need to haul like 7000+ lb regularly. They're expensive to drive and expensive to maintain, so unless you're really needing the extra towing people buy them for completely the wrong reasons... The newer trucks with the boosted V6's seem to be very adequate...

Not what I hear from owners. The concensus tends to be "A V8 would get the same fuel economy with better reliability and less gear-hunting".
Chevy's V8s vs Ecoboost F150 is real-world proof of this.

I suppose it depends what you're doing with it. I do agree that these newer transmissions with 230985235 gears can never make up their minds where they want to be.

I think people make too big of a deal with MPG.. If you're buying a truck that big, you need it to be capable of what you're doing. If all you care about is MPG, you probably should get a smaller truck, or reconsider if you need a truck at all.. After all, if you drove 20k miles per year, going from 20 MPG to 25 MPG is only gonna save you $800/year in gas.. I would reckon a guess that if you're looking at $67 per month in gas being a deal breaker on buying a 30-40k truck, you might also reconsider.
