what kind of springs? im on coilovers had to raise back a little but if you on stock 19s those are fine. Offsets aren't aggressive on those

I'm on stock. If using the 45 will present no hassles, yes I'll give it a shot.

Hey all been awhile since I last posted. Actually about the time I purchased my DWS tires about 3 years ago. I now have about 41k miles on the tires and they are down to 3/32 and winter is approaching. The "W" is just about gone. As far as I am concerned, they have been great tires but that is comparing them to the horrific RSAs. The tire shop suggested the Conti Purecontact as a possible alternative to provide a little better "touring" feel. Anybody have any experience with the PureContact? My alternative is the ContiExtremeContact DWS (which actually costs slightly less). My 08 M is stock and I am medium to aggressive (at times) driver.

thanks

IMO the ExtremeContact DWS provides a touring feel. It definitely has a softer sidewall than any other UHP tire (at least the previous version with the exact same name did; I have no experience with this version). I don't know what you want, so I can't just give you my usual recommendation (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus has better traction than Continental ExtremeContact DWS in all conditions but is a very loud tire, Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS has better traction than the Continental ExtremeContact DWS and is quieter on most surfaces but isn't quite as good as the Michelin [though I personally wouldn't go with the Michelin again for the noise]). I am running Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS, and have completely used at least one set of the other aformentioned tires (which is to say I can't guarantee you the Potenza's don't get louder over time vs the ExtremeContacts). I bought the Potenza based on their top TireRack's rating placement when I bought them, but they have poor ratings in Consumer Reports 2013. I don't remember who top dog is in Consumer Reports, but based on my preferences, my next set might be the Nitto A/S UHP tire (don't remember it's name). That would be primarily because it's supposed to be significantly quieter, and I think I liked its traction ratings compared to the others (dry might not be quite as good, but wet and snow might be better).

I will say this, you don't necessarily need a UHP tire, but if someone borrowed or even stole your car, drove it faster than the tire speed rating, wrecked, and wanted to sue you, technically they would have a case (I can't say whether they would win or not, but only a judge using common sense instead of prior cases would throw it out), that is, assuming you live in the US (sad but true). Moreover, I think going less than UHP and then driving agressive at times could be a bad mix, because it's not incredibly difficult to lose traction with any UHP tire if you get too agressive or conditions aren't ideal. I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that this would be more true wit a lesser tire.

thought I would post a quick update since I could not find too many posts on the Pure Contacts. I did install the Conti Purecontact. Tires have been great so far. About 6k miles on them at this point in approx. 4 months. I live in the Midwest and the M35x performed exceptionally well in the snow. Deepest about 7 inches or so. For those of you comparing to the DWS like I was, I would say similar performance with a slightly more softer feel. The RSA tramlining issues that were eliminated with the DWS likewise are non-existent with the Pure Contacts. I am not sure I have experienced any improvement to gas mileage but I have not been focused on it. Interestingly, I have had no issues maintaining proper inflation. With the DWS' I was always adjusting the air. maybe a real good bead seal this time? In any event, if I remember to do so, I will post again in anther 10k miles or so. I got in excess of 40k miles on the DWS' and these should last longer.

Glad to hear its going well, Nemo!
No matter what 'reviewrs' or so-called experts say, the Conti DWS have always been a fav for winter driving. I just ordered my new set of tires today. I have always been a starch fan of Michelins, and have strayed only once on a previous car- just to have them yanked and replaced by Michelins in less than 4 months.
However, I'm going back on the limb and I shall be the first one here I reckon to try the new-ish Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 all season tires. I live in South Florida so absolutely no chance of snow or even cold temps for that matter, but i like the stiffness and longevity of tire wear from A/S tires.
TireRack will have them at the installer's on Tuesday next. I shall post some pics and, like you, will update us on how they go. I can't work out how they can have such higher rating than Michelins, Contis, and Pirelli's in all fields, nd still cost less, but they do. Now it's time to put their rubber where their mouth goes, or whatever you lot say, LOL and see just how accurate those ratings are. When I told the installer to expect them, even HE told me it was a great choice and mentioned how Hankook's have stepped up the quality and performance lately. He says I will NOT be disappointed (same thing the Cooper tire guy said and when I had them yanked, I wanted take a marker and change the sidewalls to read "Crapper" instead of Cooper).

Don't get the Conti DW's, you have to get the DWS model of them. Having owned both I can tell you the DW's are absolute crap. They are summer tires so 1) they will be ruined if the tires get in temps below 35 degrees (doesn't matter whether you drive them in this temp or not), 2) they are more expensive than the Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's yet they handle worse and they dont last as long, 3) mine barely made it past 1 year on the tires before they were worn out, and 4) their handling drops off a TON as the tire life goes.

The DWS handles about as good as the DW, but handles better in rain too. They also lasts 6-12 months longer and can handle temps at freezing and below.

@Larz - How have the Hankook S1 Noble2's been holding up after these couple months?

I have a little over 1,000 miles on thm and I have to say that I am still completely satisfied with them. I am about to leave for a 3,000 mile road trip in 24 hours and will post a more detailed review when I get back home.
For now, even though I was 75% sure I was going to miss my Michelin Sport A/S PLus tires ... I can't find a bloody thing wrong with these Hankook Ventus S1 nobile2's. In fact, they are quiet as a church mouse on every surface except bridges (and NO tire is silent on bridges). They grip like a moth on fly paper and handle confidently in wet and dry.

Anyone have any experience with the Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus? It's a Grand Touring All Season rated above the Conti PureContact on the TireRack survey. The main issue I would want info about is tramlining w/the M.

A moth on flypaper..??!!!

Go to the tire rack website, look up that tire, then scroll down that page to 'videos' and you will see them driven on track and roadway compared to others in their class.
