Looking at the Pirelli Pzero Nero M&S and Goodyear Eagle F1 . Both are all season tires. Anyone have any experience with these? I'm in the DC area so need something for dry/wet/snow

I replaced a good set of Michelins on my previous car with Goodyear Eagle F1s. The grip was better, but the road noise was SIGNIFICANT. Driving home from having them installed I noticed the difference. Had I known, I probably would have stayed away from them.

Im in the DC area like you, and heres my plan, although when my fiancee hears it Im going to get hassled.

I bought my car with Kumho summer tires on it. I like them well enough. I think Im going to get another set of rims, and put some all season tires on them for winter time. Im probably going to get the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires. Ive just always had good luck with Michelins.

I would have to say the Neros. They have a unbelievable deal going on for them, plus they are asymmetrical so they can be cross rotated to even out wear. I also strongly suggest getting your alignment done with a total toe adjustment set to ~0.04 degrees of total toe. Also pick wisely who you have mount your tires the 19" wheels scratch really easily. I know a few of the dealers in this are will not mount tire rack tires, a few others will.

Something to keep in mind: an all-season tire is not going to perform as well in snow as snow tires, nor will it perform as well as summer tires in summer.

While these are both excellent tires, I would rather recommend that you get a set of inexpensive wheels and put true snow tires on them for the winter, and get good summer tires on your current wheels for the summer.

I have had excellent experiences with the summer "version" of the Goodyear Eagle F1 (specifically, the Eagle F1 GS-D3) and would consider the Eagle F1 All-Season as the best contender from the two above. On the other hand, the Pirelli has been highly rated by others too!

So, all in all, you probably will not be wrong with either one of the above ... i'd say "pick the cheaper one" or "flip a coin" and go for it.

Yes, but Tire Rack has made arrangements with many local places in the country to install tires - they will even drop ship to the place of your choice if you want to avoid lugging the home-delivered tires to the installation place!

I have not used this "drop-ship" capability though, since the times I have purchased tires from Tire Rack, I simply had the tires delivered to my house and took them myself to the pre-arranged installation place.

I am all about the drop ship. My wife would be.....let's say < pleased if there were four large "dirty" black tires at my front door. Despite the fact that they are brand new and still have paint on the tread, it doesn't matter the fact is "dirty" tires in the house = fail. If you have a good relationship with a service center call and ask your advisor if that would be possible.

The main reason I dissented from the Goodyears (of which I am openly biased) is the cross rotation capabilities that seem to quell many of the erratic tire wear or "trambling" issues exhibited by some 06+ M owners. Couple that with a proper alignment and the M's annoyances can be almost eradicated. I am currently working on a long term test involving several 06+ Ms with various driveline and wheel configurations, as well as taking into consideration the driving style of the owner.

Since I see a few of the members here are in the DC area if you guys have any interest in participating in my informal study, feel free to contact me.

How well are snow tires going to perform in 40 degree dry weather? Because if A/s are better thats what I want. We get 4 snow storms here a year max, which normally result in less than 6 inches of snow each. I dont think I need true snow tires. I need tires which can handle the cold temps, while providing excellent grip. The summer tires get hard.

What a coincidence. I was close to buying the Goodyears right after I posted this thread and thought "i should wait to hear from people first; what if someone says they're loud as hell or soemthing." And here you post this. This can only mean I'm psychic. Thanks for the heads up. I would deeply regret riding on loud tires.

i have the 18" stock wheels. I'm having the dealer do everything.

Two sets of tires is an interesting idea...

I dont want to ruin Goodyear's business. They were good tires, just loud. I think a lot of personal preference goes into buying tires in general. Some people dont care about ride or comfort, they want all out grip. And although my driving is pretty spirited, I prefer the quality of the ride over a marginal gain in performance.

I would have to agree completly with your statement. If you are driving as many of us inside the Beltway do (stuck in traffic with small breaks of open road) a true summer performance tire. There are many tires that I guess would technically be considered "all season" that will fit the performance needs of almost all drivers without compromising all weather traction.

Some people buy tires based off name alone, some just like the tread design with little to no attention payed to the practacle side of them.

Thanks for the input. I ended up going with neither.

I got the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position XL. The reviews from m35x owners on tirerack.com were very positive. They were a bit pricey at just over $200 a tire but I trust M owners and the M owners said these things performed very well with minimal noise.

That sounds like a decent choice.

Good luck with them and make sure you get an alignment done.

After you get a few thousand on them if you could please update the Tire Review thread to help other owners. zer...79681

That is likely to be a perfectly fine tire too!

I bought 3 sets of tires from tirerack and had them drop shipped. Very easy and the recommendations for installers was excellent. (I don't work for tirerack). Would definitely do it again.

I ordered mine saturday they shipped UPS ground yesterday and I got them today. TireRack rules

I just compared them to my stock tires side by side and only now do I realize how bald the stocks are. Good lord. I'm having my dealer put the tires on as soon as they're finished with my 30k mile service early next week along with brand new Frozen Rotors slotted rotors and Hawk brake pads. Looking forward to feeling the difference!

I'm sure you will be pleased with the outcome. Are you going slotted at all four corners? I'm sure you will notice increased brake pedal response and better cornering. Nothing beats the feeling of the first ride on new tires.

M35Sport~ Some people love Kumhos others experience noise and uneven wear. From the 4 selections in your post I would vote for the Neros. They are actually cheaper than their Korean counterparts. I don't like the way that Kumhos can wear on either the inner or outer edges with either a little toe or camber. Both of which the M needs.

I was thinking of getting the same tires. I do not need tires right away, but would like to get new ones soon. Please let me know how you like the Kuhmo's. Thanks
