I know everyone loves their DWS's by Continental, however mine have 30k miles on them and they have been noisy since about 10k miles. I don't want another set of them.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these tires? I have an 06 M35x.

Pirelli PZero Nero All Season
Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum (or any Kumho's)

I live in the Chicago area, which means brutal winters so traction is important.

I guess the other alternative is Hankook or Yokohama also.

thanks!

The popular Hankook's are summer tires, so they probably wouldnt suit you in Chicago with winter coming on. Summer tires are not designed to be below freezing temperatures.

I also might be switching from the DWS my next time. They are great tires as far as traction goes, but they are noisy as hell. I'm willing to sacrifice a little traction for better comfort/noise levels.

Agreed regarding the traction but quieter would be better.

The Hankook's are actually Hankook Ventus V4 ES H105 (Ultra High Performance All-Season)

I'm in the same weather as you...I'm looking at Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring and Michelin Primacy MXV4. They have CRAZY ratings (similar to DWS) on Tirerack.com.

I am ridning on Kumho ECSTA ASX's and love them. I am on 245/30R22's all around. They stick to the road like nothing else! They also balanced out perfectly with my TPMS and 22x9inch rims. The 30 series look good on my rim.
Here is a link about the tire... http://www.kumhotireusa.com/tire/catego ... CCB4AC8E1E

I have the Kumho Platinum tires. Only had them a few months, but they ride nice, are quiet, no tramlining. I haven't tried them in snow yet, but read good things about winter performance which I need as well. I'm very happy with them for the price ($550 at Discount installed)

With a powerful car like the M35x if a major concern is snow traction, you'll be amazed at what it's like to drive on real snow tires in winter. I've spent winters in northern US and Canada, and all-season tires...even the best of the lot...just cannot equal good snow tires. Four wheel drive doesn't help much when all four are slipping, particularly on braking. Michelin X-ice 2's are great. If you have to do all season, maybe the Michelin MXV4's or top of the line Pilot Sport All-Season Plus. But then I'm a conservative guy ! My 2 cents worth ! Good hunting !

Those are for 18's.
They were actually $650 but Discount had sale on Sept long weekend and gave a $100 prepaid visa with purchase of 4 tires. So at the end of the day I paid $550. I also had them price match another website.

Alright, anyone who thinks the Continental ExtremeContact DWS is noisy needs to try the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus, then they'll appericate just how quiet the DWS is. On that note, I think the A/S Plus traction is better. Also, as Goodyear Assurance ComforTreads were mentioned, I will note that I stuck with Goodyear Assurance TripleTreads on my Park Ave and I think they were better and quieter than the A/S Plus (to say the least, I actually felt like I had a chance on ice without traction control [much less VDC], but I was also at significantly lighter [curb weight] and front wheel drive then, so they may not actually be better), however, they are touring tires, not ultra-high performance tires, and I didn't think either of those tires was made for our sizes.

EDIT: Seriously, in my experience, the Pilot Sport A/S Plus were WAY louder starting out and throughout their life than the ExtremeContact DWS (starting out through present). The ExtremeContact DWS were also quieter than the oem crap. I'm still sticking with this volume opinion after 24K on the DWS and I had 43.6K on the Pilot Sport A/S plus when they were shot (dangerous in snow on RWD).

EDIT2: That 24K on my DWS is not tires worn out, the S isn 't even showing obvious signs of wear on the tread. I'm hopeful that they will get me through the winter, which would mean at least 38K, but some day when I mention I apparently have new tires, someone will have to ask me / remind me to comment on just how long these lasted.

I had Riken Raptors on my car when I bought it - total CRAP! not bad in the rain, bad in the snow, REALLY noisy! crap tires for sure.

I put the DWSs on and immediately noticed zero noise and way better all-around traction - tires only have about 500 miles on them but I've always had an excellent experience with Continentals, even on my VW years ago -

I put Pirelli's (forget the type) on my Subaru Forester - they're not bad, but I guess you really can't compare those to the ones you're looking at... Overall Pirelli's are good tires tho...

The Pirelli All Season is a good tire, but I am not sure how good compared to the Continental DWS.

You may also like the Goodyear Eagle F1 All-Season a lot - they are well-rated too.

How about getting a set of snow tires (almost any brand, but the Michelin Alpine is best!) on a set of cheap wheels for snow, and switching to Michelin Pilot PS2 on your current wheels for the summers? That way, you get the best possible outcome! :yesnod

Z

P.S: BTW, I am surprised you got 30k (or more?) out of the DWS ... they have not lasted that long for me.

Last year I put Goodyear Assurance ComforTred Touring tires on my M35x. I had the previous generation ComforTred tires on my Maxima. Love 'em. Quiet ahhhh. They're $215.72 ea at Sam's Club. I'm in Cincinnati and get a bit of snow, sleet, freezing rain, all the fun stuff. I'm not afraid of it.

I actually went to get DWS and they were so far back ordered I setlled on the new General GMAX AS03, which are so far really nice, of course except they are a tad noisy. The are quiet up t around 45MPH then there is a steady drone sound on some pavement, on other pavement they are fairly quiet. I guess you can't get a great handling tire without some compromise on noise.

Stay away from the Kumho platinums!!! I have had two sets on my 06 M35 Sport in the 19" size. These tires, when new, will give your car a very smooth and quiet ride. But they will reduce the handling feel and capability. Also no matter what after about 20K miles the treads start to seperate. I bought them because they were the longest lasting tire in the 245-40-19 size but they don't last. Discount tire has had to replace and rebalance them several times. Nothing seems to help. I finally told myself that I should get some Japanese tires for my Japanese car. I now have the Yokohama Avid envigor all season tires and they are nice. No tread seperation, nice firm sidewall for sporty handling but still good ride quality. And decent traction in cold weather and snow. I know the price of the Kumhos is attractive but you get what you pay for. I would also recomend the Michelin Pilot sport A/S tires. My wife has them on her 08 Acura TL. They are very good but very expensive. If you wan to know more please let me know. And I also live in the south suburbs of Chicago.

I think this is the route I'm going in a month or so.

I had to drive to see my GF in Northern VA this weekend and had to battle some slush/ice/snow in Philly/DC and my DWS's are in need of changing. Way too much hyrdoplaning at speeds that I normally don't feel a thing in.

I was also looking into new tires and was forced away from the DWS as there was no way of getting them soon with being back ordered everywhere i looked, however i think im glad i got away from them cause everyone seems to have a negative view of them lately. I ended up going with the Birdgestone Potenza Pole Position. Theyre head and shoulders quieter and more responsive than the tires outta the factory and so far in rain theyve had enough grip for me, and my "aggressive" driving". Also, this past weekend with the snow hitting the north east i got my first chance to check them out in icey and slushy conditions and i never felt a loss of grip on the highway at 65-75 mph and felt completely planted throughout the local streets as well. Just giving my thoughts considering I saw nobody had mentioned this option.

They were installed at 49kmi and I just hit 74k on the return home to NY.

I didn't specifically check the tread markers, but I did feel the grooves to see how much tread was left and after just looking at a tape measure...I'd say I have about 1/8 inch of tread left. They are definitely very noisy now.

Don't get me wrong, Between 49k and about high-60's...they were FANTASTIC tires. However, I think they've gone up in price, etc. so I think I'm going to try the Goodyear ComforTred tires.

I think I'm also going to get some 18x8 Sport Edition KV5 wheels as well as the dealer told me 3 of mine are bent (not too bad - but I still get a slight vibration).

As w/the old Extreme Contacts, for us herein it does appear the only significant fault is that the DWS gives it up too quickly in tread wear. But then how is it ranked top of the list @ The Tire Rack (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyres ... type=UHPAS ) for tread wear? Do Infiniti freaks as us drive a bit more energetically than the norm? :woot:

I have definitely driven them hard. I live in the boonies and sometimes will take the back country roads to my destinations and when I do that...I tend to push them to the limit. I definitely have slightly uneven wear as a result lol.

That's kinda' what I'm thinking. You, Z and too many of us are good examples of the "eat rubber for lunch bunch!!" I'm a bit less energetic Image in my rubber munching ways and hence I've got about 10k on the DWS and they look almost new.

I just put my second set of Michelin Pilot A/S Plus tires on my Y34. I ran my last set from 93,570 to 146,700 and still had about 5/32 of tread left in them, which speaks volumes about the tread life (53,000 miles is pretty good for an Ultra High Performance Tire). My experience with traction has been great, except in the worst ice conditions. I had them in Colorado over a 7 month period, took it up to the slopes during that time, and had it as an every-day driver in Colorado springs throughout the winter and only once was the icing so bad that I couldn't drive. I will say, for whatever reason, my tires "whined" a little bit for the first 1000-2000 miles, but they quieted down after that. I'm not sure what the deal is with that, but I'm experiencing the same thing on this new set that I jut purchased. I will say that I've begun to run my tires at 34psi rather than the recommended 33. I found that my tires wore a little unevenly on the outsides and had more tread on the inside. Not sure if this is a tire issue, a weight issue or what. I had the alignment checked twice during the time those tires were on and have never had it adjusted because its always been dead on. In order to cut down on the noise in the cabin, I put insulation behind and under the rear seat. This helped to minimize the high-pitched whine. I recommend using the $18 stuff from home depot that they use for duct insulation (http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R ... ogId=10053)

I did read A LOT about what other tires people put on their Ms before I purchased the Michelins again, but after the cost analysis, determined the best route was the Pilots. Consumer Reports rates them very well, just below two other tires (one being the Hankook V12 Ventus and I think the other being the PZero Nero), but they are very expensive. In the end though, at least for me, the tread life is double what most of the other tires were, so by the time the Michelins wore out, I would have been through two and a half sets of the other tires (at least thats my theory...)

Anyway, all this to say, I've heard nothing but good things about the DWS, but in the end, its all compromises it seems. I would love to try the DWS's, but I feel like with as much driving as I do, I'd be changing tires once a year!
