New tires a bit rough/stiff?

I bought my Rogue used a few years ago, and it came with Hankooks. Not sure on the model, but just your basic all-season tire. Just replaced them a few days ago with Firestone Weathergrips (since I live in NE Ohio and deal with rain and snow). Anyway, they seem like good tires, but the ride is definitely stiffer. I'm not noticing any vibrations, so I think the balancing is good, but I feel every little bump in the road. Just a fairly stiff ride.

Anyone have experience with these tires? Do they just need to break in a bit? According to the sensors, the dash readout says they are all around 31 PSI, but I need to verify with a gauge.

I've never owned those but load range is F and has a 12 ply sidewall and a comfort rating by firestone as 3/5 and a 60000 mile warranty.. thats a gonna be as the Italians say, one tough meatball. If you get that life out of them and they provide good traction for your needs at that price thats a good deal. Personally I like to spend about 1000 bucks on tires and get 25000 miles on them. That's a comfortable tire in my book but im in the minority.

I forgot to ask, what is your tire size?

For a 225 65 17 you allready have low pressure in them so I dunno. Might just take getting used to. Kind of a unique tire in the marketplace.

Guess I will see how it goes. I'm in Cleveland, so a lot of the roads suck. I didn't see many complaints in the reviews about overly stiff rides. I have a 2012 Camaro with high performance summer tires, so I'm used to a stiff ride with that, but remember the Rogue being cushier before the tire swap. It's been a very long time since I got new tires on any vehicle, so wasn't really sure what to expect. Anyway, thanks for the tips, everyone!

Those 12-ply rated sidewalls are bound to ride stiff no matter what pressure you run them at. The principle of a radial tire is a sidewall that's much more flexible than the tread, allowing the sidewalls to "squirm" in a turn or "squish" over bumps without deforming the tread and causing loss of contact. With heavy ply ratings, much of that flexibility is lost and a rougher ride is pretty much guaranteed.

Tire reviews are great comedy. The complaint I normally see are about soft sidewalls after the user has clipped a curb and destroyed the tire.

Greetings from Parma! I just have all-season Tiger Paws on mine and they have been good for all conditions around here.

They still make bias-ply for short-haul trucks and construction equipment. Ignoramuses like that should avail themselves of some. Or get it over with and just drive a bulldozer.
