Trying to find a set of 235/55/20 is like finding a needle a haystack. I can only find 4 companies that make the above size.

Could I install a different size, namely 255/50/20? These tires should be a little shorter and a little wider, but I want to ensure they don't rub. My speedometer should only be off a mph or so by changing the size.

Any suggestions?

I replaced the tires in my 09 SL with 245x60x18 Yokohama YK520 tires from America's Tire. I really like these new tires. You might try 245X50X20. I was told that you can not go to much wider than 245 or there is a chance the tires will rub.

I came to this forum seeking this answer also- what is the largest tire I can put on OEM 20" wheels that wont rub? As the poster said, finding the stock size is...hard and they all are very $$

I was also disappointed with the Factory Toyo's. They kept leaking down and were worn out at 30K. I looked at the options for replacement and did not like any of the choices available. I finally settled on the 255/55R20 size and chose the Bridgestone Dueler Alenza. These have a 65K Warranty and so far are very quiet and and the ride is far better than the stock tires. I cannot see any rub issues and they seem to fit fine on both the rims and the vehicle. I hope this puts the 20" tire issues to rest for me for a very long time. I'll post finding again after I have at least 10K on the tread.

I would suggest sticking with the same size, did you check www.tirerack.com?
