I just got my self a 17*8 rims.. Thinking about getting a 225/45/17 for a 1996 240sx 5-lugs...

I have been looking at what tires I should buy... I am looking for all-season tires as I will not be able to swap tire/wheel just for winter...

1. Pirelli PZero Nero M&S2. Kumho ECSTA ASX3. Nitto NeoGen

Those three tires are the ones Im intersted in them... What do you guys think about those? Also, would you recommend anything else?

Thank you.

No, do 215/45-17 all around. Get whatever best fits your budget.

There are nice tires, and then there are good tires, great tires, and competition tires. Buy to the standards and conditions you'll need for your car.

Most posts I read agree that Kumho builds an OK tire for the low price range.

If I were you, I would buy the most expensive tires I could find or afford. Tire is the only contact your car has with the road. Don't go cheap! Some things, one cannot afford to go cheap on!

If you have to use the car in a utility kind of fashion, don't get sticky good tires.

From my experience, nobody up here uses Pirelli except the local Jaguar dealer, people only buy Kumho's when they've spent too much on the wheels they had to have, and now need a cheap tire, and Nobody would use a Nitto unless it's in a sport truck size, and even then that's a problem because they are closely related to junk. Kuhmo a winner by default

Thank you for your reply. I think i will go with Kumhos but any reason why you recommend 215 instead of 225?

225-45-17 would work great on a 8" wide wheel smithsr is just on crack.

a 215-45-17 would be more stretched, if thats the look your going for..me? I'd go with the 225's.

why dont you check out the yokohama AVS Db S2? or the falken ZE512?

both are better, IMO than the kumho. but the Pzero Nero M/S is probably your best choice, Pirelli makes great high performance tires.

225/45 is slightly taller than OEM OD.

215/45 or 235/40 on a 17 is almost perfect and 225/40 on an 18 is almost perfect.

OEM being 205/55/16

the diff between OEM vs 225 is alot less than OEM vs 215 on 17s... this is according to the calculations that I did on one of the sites in Tire FAQ...
