I am getting close to needing tires for the I.

17" x 7" chrome 2002 I30t wheels.

I now have the Bridgestone RE92 225/50/17 tires on the car. I am happy with the performance, and noise, but at a 160 treadware, and $160 per, it is kinda pricey.

I got a new Car & Driver, yesterday, and I saw an add for the Yokahama Avid H4s tire. They are giving a $100 Marriott Bonus Bucks Coupon, if you buy 4.

They don't make one in the 225/50/17, but do make one in a 245/45/17 size.

The treadware is 500!, temperature and traction are excellent, but there is no feedback on the tires, since they are new. The price at TireRack, is $110 each, which is a great deal, as well.

I definitely dont want to go to the extreme directional tires, because of NO traction in snow, and LOTS of noise, as the tires start to wear.

These are directional. but have a less agressive tread patern, and are advertised as quiet.

Let me know what you guys think.

Those would be too wide to safely mount on a 7" wide wheel. It would need at least a 7.5" wide rim. That 7" is going to limit your tire choices a lot.

I had seen that it recommended a 7.5" wheel.

But looking at the tread width, it doesn't seem to be a problem, at all.

When you mean safely, do you mean, "cornering at Martinsville", safely, or do you mean "driving like a normal person" safely?

The sidewalls would have to be pulled in too far. The bead area would be at such a steep angle that it would not seal all the way.

Thanks.

I just don't seee any good deals, on the 225/50/17 tire sizes.

I am a little leery of the Kumho's, and other tire companies, like Falken, or Hankook, or such like.

I have had a lot of good luck, from the NITTO's, but the uni-directional tires are kinda loud.

IMO the falken ZE-512's are great tires for the 225-50-17, I sell many to dealerships(infiniti, nissan and volvo) and customers rave about how well they do for the money...

they wont get the treadwear you expect with bad alignment though, since the shoulders are broken up a lot for lower noise/better all season traction..but its still a good tire for the money.

the kumho kh11(the one that ripped of the michlin pilot primacy) should do well if you can keep a wear pattern from devloping in the tread..-chet

Thanks, Chet. I get the tires rotated, when I get the servcie done, on the dealership. I have splurged, on the wife's car. Only Brewbaker Infiniti touches it, except I always get my tires @ Cahaba Tire (Sorry Grant, but they sponsored my race car, in the 80's).

I'll take a look at 'em.
