Finally bit the bullet.

Among other inane, idiotic and invasive laws, Virginia mandates the amount of reflectivity ones tint can possess and has issued the Poe-leece little electronic gizmos to enforce this idiocy. A buddy of mine got a ticket just this week. It seems as though the majic numbers are 35% and 50% with the lesser value required on the driver and front pax windows. The aft windows and the rear windshield are eligible for the darker shades.

Any rate, 160 bucks was all it cost with a lifetime warranty (riiiiiiiiiiight!!) Like that shop will be there in a few years. Not likely, but what the hell.

I have a friend with a car company and this particular shop does all of his new ones, so they came highly recommended.

I wanted to go with low-rider gangster ebony all around to compliment my black paint, but I went with the state levels.

Looks pretty sharp!

No can take pics as it rained like a Mofo here and the car needs an appropriate bath and wax before I can get all Kodochrome with it. Sorry genamins. I will endeavor to satisfy the curious in the near term.

I went with the darkest black that I could, and chose to ignore the state lim on the fronts. What can I say? I'm a malcontent and a bit of an anarchist. I also question authority, thumb my nose at convention and ignore posted speed limits when the roads are empty. I also like to wear loud socks and dreadlocks. Not only that, but I am prone to somnambulation, have a spastic colon and Tourettes. Not too sure I have the whole picpost thing figured out either. I have had luck on other sites, but this one has previously proven to be beyond this Luddite's limited ability.

In calling around town there was an alarming lack of choice. Each shop used just one type of film and it was pretty much take it or leave it. I asked for the Huber Optik because it was recommended here but no one had it. Hard to figure. Additionally I got a bit of a price break and the shop was highly rec by a bud...so I rolled the dice. It looks great now, but I suppose the proof will be in how it looks next year and the years after.

Hell the car is a 99 and looks great as long as you don't look TOO close so I'm very happy. The guy did a very nice job, the cars flaws were there when I took it in.Now if I could just scrub up the coin for some nice wheels I'd really give the Homies a run for their money.

Back to my Cohiba, my julep and the bomb factory.

It ain't about visble light transmission unless you are one of those Very Impaired Performance afcionados. It's about infrared rejection. UVA is trivial and UVB is not a whole lot more difficult to block.

Why the ceramic film Huper Optik Stark 30 transmits 30% or light, but rejects 90% of infra red radiation.

And it will cost a little more than $300.

Huper no longer markets that film under that name- they have 2 new lines of ceramic based film- expensive and super expensive!!! Check out their website for up to date offerings! Ceramic based tint is the way to go if you are looking for performance{heat rejection} as opposed to looks or privacy.

I bet it looks nice. I put 5% tint on mine and I love it. The Y33's has large windows and cabin space, I can still see through it on a sunny day because of the large windshield with sun reflecting off the tan seats The po-po's don't care about the tint law here in OK, but it will be a different issue once I head back to Alabama to visit. I just plan to roll down my window if I see a cop back home.

that ceramic looks pretty cool. i was trying to decide between no tint and dark tint, but if i can get some decent performance out of a 60% i might have to go that route. first things first, stupid water spots...

Did you get the tint yet? If you are still looking for ceramic...try this Formula 1 Pinnacle Series Ceramic. Very good and I've been told that it's even better than what's recommended here.

Formula One Pinnacle is an excellent top of the line ceramic tint- I wouldnt say it is better than any other ceramic based product{Huper and a few others}-

The major advantage to the Formula One brand is it has a much larger base of installers than some of the other brands of CERAMIC BASED tint- so later down the road, if you need warranty coverage or work done to retint after glass replacement, it is easier to find an authorized installer to complete the work needed.

I have had Formula One tint installed on the Q now for over 7 years, and it looks as good as when it was first installed.
