So i replaced my thermostat. it is sealed good and everything. when i go to open the air relief valve the head of the bolt breaks off. So im like ok, ill just have to shake the car and wait it out for the air bubbles to escape. Idling the car will not overheat but when im driving after alil less then 5 minutes it will. So i leave the radiator cap off and start the car. I see bubbles coming out and i get excited. But now there is not really any bubbles coming out just the coolant is overflowing massively. It gets so bad that i have to turn my car off because it starts smoking.I need help!!!! fast. I need to go somewhere tomorro and i was working on it from 130pm till 815pm i cant ****ing bleed this ****. i just want to throw my car out

the thing is i did use water to flush it. i ran it and no signs of overheating so i thought it was good and it was with the new thermostat.

then what is the point of the thermostat being in the car for the first place. Is it to control the temperature and therefore control the emissions?

google it a lot of ppl dont run thermostats as it can give a lower water temp. If you live in a cold climate you should run one as your car will take forever to warm up if you dont. A thermostat just controls at what temp more coolant is circulated through the engine so without on it would just constantly.

just cap the thing off and still see if it get's hot. If it gets hot then shut it back down. If you broke the bleeder screw in the intake off seal it with some expoxy in a tube that you knead to activate.Looks like playdough. You are turning the heater on high before bleeding it i hope.See if both the upper and lower hoses are getting hot.If the lower isn't then the thermostat isn't working.

Yea i have the heater on high. The top rad hose is getting hot. I didnt check the lower rad hose. I would assume its hot if the top one is. It stays at normal operating temperature while it is at idle. But after i drive for a little bit it starts to go up slowly. so idk what the problem is. I think i'm going to jack the car up at let it run. The only problem i get is that the coolant overflows and starts smoking

Yea from where the cap goes. And sometimes it like squirts out, kinda like a waterfall. I was thinking that something was blocking it and thats what is causing the overflow, that would be from the thermostat.

i have a spill saver coolant funnel that i got off that MAC tool truck that i use to burp the system when i think theres air present. it mounts to the rad, and i pour a little coolant in and squeeze the upper rad hose to push the air out and watch for bubbles in the funnel.the only time my car has overheated is when i didnt add enough coolant in the rad.

yea i already checked for leaks. Of course thats like the first thing you check wen u are done with everything during the bleeding process. this really pisses me off though. I just did everything and now i have to redo it cuz of a faulty thermo and have to buy more coolant.
