So yeah, this sucks cow poo...

Tinted car windows may have to lighten up03:17 PM CDT on Friday, April 3, 2009By Lee McGuire / 11 News

Doctors may want you to wear more sunscreen, but state lawmakers in Texas may soon order your car window to use a little less.

The change would limit the level of tint allowed on car windows. Current laws only regulate the front driver and passenger windows, and require roughly 25 percent of visible light to pass through. The new rules would cover every window except the windshield and back hatch, and mandate a minimum of 35 percent transparency.

“It’s a safety issue,” said State Rep. Larry Phillips, R-Sherman. “It’s for law enforcement and other citizens. When we’re driving down the road, we communicate with each other even though we’re not looking at each other. When you’re too dark, you lose communication between drivers.”

Chris Weinhardt, a marketing director at ENPRO Distributing, says the proposed rules would quickly frustrate drivers. ENPRO sells and installs window film to help drivers avoid glare and cool a car’s interior.

“Your car is going to be a whole lot uncomfortable,” said Weinhardt, who sells window film for cars and trucks. “By raising the legal limit on the window film, in essence you’d be creating a visible nightmare by all the glare coming in. You’d have to go in and put new window film on your car or you’d be in violation of the new law.”

The plan has already passed the state Senate by a unanimous vote and is now working its way through a House committee. If approved, it would take effect September first.

Most new vehicles sold in Texas come with window film that complies more stringent standards already in place in other states, which would likely be permissible under the changes proposed in the Texas legislature.

The bill would not apply to limousines, taxis, some commercial vehicles and police cars.

It's Texas! C'mon now. I'm all for tints in that state! Haha. No joke. That really does suck. I imagine cars get extremely warm in Texas. If I lived in Texas, my car(s) would have limo tint all around! Haha.

Yeah, I was just planning on getting 25%. I guess I could just get it and if I ever happen to get pulled over, I can just play dumb and be like "what new law, when I got it, the tinter said this was legal", lol.

It still stinks man.Good idea.I just hope the cop doesn't " " in your face. The law isn't in effect yet though, right? I guess a mini loophole is you could say you had it and didn't realize you had to take it off after the law was put into effect!

Dude, 35% isn't even that bad! Here in CA, the minimum 70%, that's just pointless!

Be sure to read the state statues for the tint. In PA, it's also 35% light transparency; however ONLY for the side and rear wing windows. Does not say ANYTHING about the rear...know what I'm sayin

seriously, 35% isn't that bad. sure it takes a little "coolness" away from your car, but 70% is pretty close to nothing. be happy it went up only 10%.

Wow, CA sucks...

It did say it didn't cover anything with the back window...it is mostly just the drivers/pasangers...we have 50% here in Ohio (nothing on the other sides/rear) so be happy with 35%...could be worse.

Yup CA does suck, pretty much if you have a tint that looks a bit dark for the two front windows, it's illegal.

Come on now, 35% isn't that bad. That what it is here in Washington and what I have on my car. Granted it's not super dark, but with my black interior it still looks good. Although, I've also supplemented the 35% by doing a little... extra.

Everywhere seems better than Boston.....

35% atleast and now you cant have an exhaust or do any mods to your lights....basically nothing can be done, you cant get an inspection sticker which then voids your insurance and ability to register your car...its a good time

in BC we're not allowed ANY tint on the front driver and passenger side windows. that's why i had to do a tint blend, 20% in the back, 35% on the rear corners and none on the front.

Its 50% in VA for the 2 front windows. Ive been pulled over twice for it. They're d..kheads here in VA. One cop did a complete a U-turn on the other side of the highway just to pull me over for my tint.

I wonder if there is any chance that people could be grandfathered in to get past this law. My windows are 18% in the little windows and the back and 35% on the doors. Just got them tinted in March. That would suck if I had to go pay $$$ to get those two little windows retinted.

Hope it doesn't pass.
