new tail lights, new problems

hey guys, i've been a long time reader and this forum has helped me solve a lot of my problems. but i havent been able to find a solution for this yet, so i thought i'd register and ask.

anyway. i've got a 89' fastback, and recently installed new tail lights. they were altezza tail lights (pic: http://www.tradesonic.com/news...C.jpg), similar in shape to kouki's..

a couple problems though.. when i first installed them, my blinkers, reverse would work, but no stop lights. went to the fuse panel and found that my fuse was blown for the stop lights, replaced it, and they worked.

now though, my gauges won't light up when you flip them on. (i replaced the gauge bulbs with LEDs, if that makes a difference). HOWEVER they do seem to like to turn on whenever i hit the brake pedal. step on the pedal, the gauges light up, take your foot off, they turn off.

so right now my car is rendered practically useless for night driving/drifting.

if there is a topic i missed that covers this, feel free to just throw me a link, though im pretty sure i didn't find anything like this..

p.s. as a side note, the lights have a small gap underneath them, where the metal trim piece is, but im assuming it's because they are designed like the kouki's, and i need the 180sx metal trim, am i right?

I have the same taillights and my reverse doesnt work. Did you leave them clear? I just tinted mine and I love it. but i have to say i got use to the clear.
