Hi, My name is Stan. I was into 240sx for a long time and after all these years I finally got myself a 240sx Hatchback. Thinking about swapping the engine to a SR20DET. It's a 1990 240sx with 130k miles on chassis and engine which is a KA24E. All stock no mods. Bought it for 1.9k. Without the RIMS.

Problems / Missing
-Driver seat is broken doesn't stay still.
-Head Gasket needs to be replaced
-Missing Stereo

Other than these problems the car is in a good condition have a look at the pictures. Advices would be very thankful.

Very clean car. You might want to think twice about a SR20DET swap in a 240 in Califa.... Good luck.

The single cam isn't a bad motor, it all depends on your goals. I think the single cam also sounds very good with the right exhaust. Work on fixing everything thats wrong and getting the car running smooth before going crazy with mods, after all the car is 20 years old. Don't forget to lower it :bigthumb: needs lowering. Sounds like you need new seat rails. You might be able to find some here on nicoclub in the marketplace section under interior or complete part-outs. Do your research, and try your best to do things right. There are a lot of experienced people on the forum that will be glad to help.

This is your best way to get simple questions answered:

why do you think sr20det is not a good choice to swap in california? any specific answer to it?

it's illegal. won't pass visual inspection or smog. unless you pay someone off to pass the inspection on the low.

Engine is illegal, but it will pass fine if tuned correctly + A very good CAT. It's been done without one too. Barely passed!!

In Texas you can get away with 220 Hydro Carbons. I'm sure in California it is a lot lower to pass probably like 120 lol. Plus people in California that do inspections are very educated in the 240 SR swap department because of other jackasses street racing getting busted.

Head gasket is a relatively easy fix if you are mechanically inclined. The real question is what caused the headgasket to go in the first place. Usually a headgasket blowing is the result of some other issue that was ignored.

im in the same boat, fix whats wrong, then worry about mods, ESPECIALLY if its your only means of transportation! but if it isnt, a clean running car is better than a "project" collecting dust.

In that case xxr's are probably your best bet for new. you could most likely find something nicer and better quality used for that much i have the flat black with red strip xxrs just til i do 5 lug conversion. they dont look horrible now that the car is lowered

very clean car, although IMO Im not likin the wing... I would probably just take the money you'd save from SR20 swap and build the KA24E a bit and turbo it. go KA-T. I dont see why you couldnt get around in cali with that. although im not sure on cali laws so...

I took out the wing. Well I made up my mind to put a SR20DET into the 240. Was thinking about putting the Turbo on the SOHC but... SR would be more worth it to me. So many maintenance to do on this car... Thanks for the reply tho.

Look for Razi's build thread. He has a nice stock looking ka-t setup.. If you're gonna go sr then you'd only be able to use it on the track.

SRs can EASILY pass smog. No big worries there.

Visual inspection, however, is a different story. They don't do it here so it's not a concern but I would do some researching about your specific area.

looks good! and its not super over priced, I would be weary of the overheating issue though. but for that price I would go for it if the shell is solid.
BTW is Dongpane you're real name? :poke: lol

why an SR swap? keep the SOHC, and get a basic turbo kit for it, and you will smack the s*** out of sr's all day long, and have better driveability, with extreme ease of finding parts.

edit:

and be legal

first this is a stupid comment, two... a ka-t will not carb legal either. smog and vehicle modication regulations in CA are a PITA. please do research before you give someone wrong advice

HEY! THIS WAS MINE!!! HAAA!

I'm the guy who sold it to the guy who sold it to you!!! HA that's my driveway! With my kouki in the back!

Haaa I kind of miss her.

Wait I just read the thread. How much did you sell it for? To who? Someone who knows about 240's? or someone like the guy you bought it from.
