Hi Folks.
I finally gave up on my worn out Hardbody and purchased a cherry '93 Pathfinder XE with 167k miles. Looks like it's never been off the pavement.
Other than the trans cooler upgrade, what should I be thinking about doing to get another hundred thousand miles out of this rig? I plan on pulling my 2,000 pound tent trailer a couple thousand miles a summer with it, otherwise it will be a grocery getter with occasional off road excursions.
Thanks

Change all the fluids, unless you know they have been done recently.

plus new filters (air, fuel, transmission), new sparkplugs, and sea foaming wouldnt hurt, just do that before the oil and sparkplug change.

I would add that the rust is what usually kills your car before an engine or transmission dies if its well maintained, but especially on those older pathfinders i know rust was an issue.

I would get something along the lines of this

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/access ... ier=418859

and spray that all over on your underbody so that it prevents further rust from happening, and will stop the rust that is on there already.

The cans cost like five bucks each or so at like advance auto, so buy like 5-6 of those and you should be able to cover it all in a thick coat.

Heres something along the lines of what i did a year and a half ago,

post5110625.html?hilit=underbody#p5110625

It lasts for a while but its the winter, salt, gravel and stuff that wear it away, I just reapply a coat like every summer to keep it looking fresh and well covered.

Thanks folks.
I did some digging and have found that it has had regular service at the local dealership and Jiffy Lube. I think this might be one of the good ones.

Good luck with it man. My brother had one back in the day(242,000 mi. before the rot) and rode and drove way better than my '03. Only lacking in the balls dept.

BTW. The rust was typically in the frame, just above and behind the rear wheels. In the northeast, that parked many great trucks like yours due to safety concerns. If yours has this rust, you can box the frame with steel plate as long as the damage is not too extensive.

I crawled under it today and found it to be in very good shape, no rust that I can find. Lots of rain here in the Pacific Northwest, so mud and chemicals don't have much of a chance to build up.
Thanks for all of the good advice.
